Rob Edwards has urged his side to translate encouraging away performances into results at Molineux, insisting Wolves must now raise their standards at home when West Ham United visit on Saturday.
The Old Gold have shown clear signs of progress since Christmas, pushing Liverpool close before ending a losing run with a point away at Manchester United. Edwards believes those displays must now become the benchmark on home soil as Wolves look to build momentum.
Edwards demands home standards match away form
Speaking ahead of the clash with West Ham United, Edwards stressed that performances on the road have deserved more reward and that belief is growing within the squad.
“I used the word progress after the game itself but was quite keen to stress that we'd had four really good performances away from home,” Edwards said. “I thought we deserved to take something from at least one of those games, so it was great to take something away for a bit of belief.
“But what I was most pleased with was the performance. I thought it was a fairly complete performance for the full game, which was what we want.”
The draw at Old Trafford, against Manchester United, was particularly important for morale, but Edwards was clear about the next challenge.
“I said to the lads after the game that we need to get that performance level at home. That's the most important thing for us now.”
Turning promise into points at Molineux
Edwards acknowledged that improvement alone is not enough unless it is backed up by results, especially in front of home supporters.
“It’s something that we’ve got to talk about, and then you’ve got to action,” he said. “I can talk about it as much as I want, but in the end the lads who go over that white line have got to go and do it.
“We need to go with that belief and some good confidence. There’s maybe a little bit of form that we’re starting to put together now, and we hope that that will transmit into results as well.”
The Wolves boss added that the players appear energised by the challenge ahead, describing Saturday’s game as one the squad are looking forward to.
Edwards praises supporters’ role
Edwards also highlighted the impact of Wolves’ travelling support, crediting them for helping fuel improved performances away from home.
“The four away games that we’ve had, the travelling support has been incredible,” he said. “They’ve seen four good performances, and they’ve been with us at the end of the game.
“If there’s a positive atmosphere at home, and the fans are really willing to get behind the lads, that’s the most important thing. Then it’s down to us to keep that performance level right throughout the game.”
Managing expectations around Mane
Edwards reserved special praise for young forward Mane, whose recent performances have caught the eye during a difficult spell for the club.
“We don’t want to put too much pressure and expectation on him,” Edwards explained. “But his performances have been really good and really encouraging.
“For a teenager to come into a Premier League team and show the bravery, quality, athleticism and energy he’s shown — especially in big stadiums, big games — fair play to him.”
Edwards believes Mane’s enthusiasm has lifted those around him, contributing to the improved displays despite limited points returns.
