Rob Edwards insists Wolves remain on the right path despite seeing their five-game unbeaten run come to an end against Manchester City, stressing that confidence inside the squad has not been shaken ahead of Saturday’s test against Bournemouth.

The Wolves head coach struck an upbeat tone after reviewing last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium, pointing to encouraging signs - particularly after the break - and a positive mood in training this week.

Edwards sees progress despite Etihad setback

Wolves were undone by Manchester City last time out, but Edwards believes the scoreline did not fully reflect his side’s performance.

“You know what you’re going up against when you go to the Etihad,” Edwards said. “Watching the game back, the performance was actually good. We wanted more intent in the first half, but City were that good it was really difficult.

“I thought second half we did a lot of good stuff. I was proud of a lot of things that day.”

Despite Wolves’ league position, Edwards maintains that internal belief remains strong.

“The vibe around the place is still pretty good,” he added. “From the outside, the position we’re in might look tough, but I genuinely feel we’re moving things in the right direction.”

Bournemouth challenge brings fresh test

Saturday’s opponents Bournemouth present a very different challenge, with Edwards full of praise for Andoni Iraola’s side.

“I’ve got loads of respect for them and the job Andoni is doing,” Edwards said. “They’re a really hard-working team, full of energy, playing on the front foot. I love watching them play.

“It must be really exciting to be connected with that football club at the moment. It’ll be a very difficult, challenging game, but one we’re really looking forward to.”

Edwards believes the confidence shown in training this week can translate into a response on the pitch.

“There’s a lot of confidence in the group at the moment,” he said. “That gives me belief.”

Rodrigo Gomes return boosts options

One positive for Wolves is the increasing involvement of Rodrigo Gomes, who is edging back towards full fitness.

“He’s a brilliant human being,” Edwards said. “A ball of energy, a really good footballer, and he can play in a number of different positions.

“It’s great we got him more minutes again. He’s someone very much in our thoughts going forward.”

The winger’s versatility offers Edwards another option as Wolves look to build momentum.

January plans remain selective

Edwards also addressed the club’s approach to the January transfer window, acknowledging the challenges Wolves face while insisting quality will not be compromised.

“We’re in a difficult position so we’ve got to be selective,” he said. “There’s a reality to what we’re trying to do.

“I want people to come in and make a real difference. We want to improve the squad for now and for the future, but that does make January more difficult than it already is.”
