Renato Veiga is nearing a permanent exit from Chelsea with Atlético Madrid leading the race — and final negotiations now depend on how the Blues structure the payment.
The Renato Veiga Atlético Madrid transfer saga has accelerated after the 21-year-old agreed personal terms with the Spanish side, according to Mundo Deportivo. All that’s left is for the two clubs to finalise the financial package.
Marca’s headline on Wednesday reads: “Renato Veiga, very close.” The Portuguese defender — who spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus — is not in Enzo Maresca’s plans for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
Why Atlético Want Veiga
Diego Simeone is reportedly impressed by Veiga’s versatility. Though primarily a centre-back, the Portugal U21 international can cover as a defensive midfielder and full-back. His experiences at Juventus and Chelsea have made him an appealing long-term project.
“He’s got size, pedigree and flexibility — Simeone sees him as a project player with room to grow,” said a source close to the deal. — Marca
Chelsea’s Terms Key to Getting It Done
The biggest hurdle now? Payment terms.
Marca stress that Chelsea’s willingness to offer “payment facilities” — such as a multi-year instalment plan — will decide whether the move goes ahead. Atlético are keen, but must manage their summer budget carefully.
Chelsea, for their part, are open to selling Veiga just a year after signing him. He spent only six months at Stamford Bridge before being loaned to Juventus in January.

Could Chelsea and Atlético Strike Another Deal?
The two clubs enjoy a strong working relationship. Last summer, Chelsea brought in João Félix on loan from Atlético, while Conor Gallagher was offered as part of talks. Those dealings have helped maintain a positive rapport, which could prove pivotal again.
If the Renato Veiga Atlético Madrid transfer goes through, it would mark another productive cross-border deal between the two.

He wants to leave and despite that we get a lot for in return back actually, so good business. He won't start for Chelsea.
