Leipzig List Glasner Among Top Candidates
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has emerged as a leading contender for RB Leipzig’s managerial vacancy, according to this week’s edition of SportBild. The German outlet reports that Leipzig’s board, along with the wider Red Bull management, have zeroed in on Glasner and Como’s Cesc Fàbregas as their primary targets since sacking Marco Rose on March 30.
“Leipzig will hold talks with Crystal Palace and Como in the ‘next few days’ for Glasner and the Spaniard respectively,” SportBild states, adding that negotiations are expected to be challenging due to the absence of release clauses. — SportBild
Negotiation Hurdles and Contract Details
Neither Glasner nor Fàbregas have release clauses in their current contracts, meaning RB Leipzig must agree fees directly with Crystal Palace and Como. Earlier reports from Bild suggested Palace would demand around €20 million for Glasner—an estimate not confirmed by SportBild.
Glasner’s Desire to Stay in England
Despite widespread interest, Austrian media have emphasized Glasner’s preference to continue in the Premier League. The 50-year-old manager has guided Palace with a pragmatic, high-press system, and his commitment to English football could complicate Leipzig’s pursuit.
Interim Solution and Future Plans
In the short term, RB Leipzig have appointed Zsolt Löw as interim coach until the end of the season. Should their external targets remain out of reach, Löw—who has a strong track record with youth sides—could be handed the role on a permanent basis.
