New Burnley signing Quilindschy Hartman has admitted his summer move to Turf Moor is a stepping stone as he looks to adapt to the Premier League and re-establish himself on the international stage.

Speaking to Viaplay — as relayed by Soccer News — the €9m arrival from Feyenoord opened up about why he joined a newly promoted Burnley side and what he hopes to achieve under Scott Parker.

Why Hartman Chose Burnley Over Bigger Clubs

Hartman, 22, had been linked with several Premier League sides in the past but surprised many by joining Burnley early in the window. However, the Dutchman insists it was Parker’s personal approach that made the difference.

“During our conversation, I noticed how much time and attention he [Scott Parker] had invested in me… Not just in terms of football — he also knew things about my personal life and family,” said Hartman. — Viaplay

He added: “This step allows me to get used to the Premier League itself — it’s an interim step. Ultimately, I gain experience here for what I have in mind.”

Eyes on the Netherlands — Hartman Sends Message to Koeman

Hartman is also focused on returning to the Dutch national team after injuries limited his progress. He made his debut for Ronald Koeman in 2023 but has only earned three caps since.

“I didn’t lose my place due to my performances,” he said. “I got injured and haven’t returned yet. If I just keep playing, I’ll quickly regain my place. My goal is to be back in the squad for the next international window.”

Analyst Verdict: Honest and Ambitious — Just What Burnley Need

Hartman’s transparency will resonate with fans — especially at a club like Burnley, where players with something to prove are often the most valuable. If he adapts quickly, he could be a breakout figure despite the club’s likely battle for survival.

Key Insights

  • Hartman joined Burnley for €9m from Feyenoord
  • Called the move an “interim step” in career development
  • Scott Parker played a key role in convincing him
  • Keen to win back his Netherlands place after injuries
  • Targeting consistent game time to relaunch his trajectory

What’s Next?

Hartman is expected to start in Burnley’s season opener and will be monitored closely by Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman ahead of the next international call-up.

Should he settle quickly into Premier League intensity, a return to the national squad — and fresh interest from top-six clubs — could come sooner than expected.

Will Hartman help Burnley survive — or use the club as a launchpad for bigger things?

If this guy gets his form back he will def be one of the best left-backs in the PL. Before his injury he was absolute unbelievable. Let’s see how things go once the PL starts. I do believe it’s the right choice for him and playing under Scott Parker who’s a good manager, it’s a good fit for both party’s.
