Since the start of the 2023/24 season, several Premier League goalkeepers have made headlines not just for brilliant saves—but also for costly mistakes. Among them, Andre Onana has earned unwanted attention by leading the league in errors directly resulting in goals.
Here’s a breakdown of the six Premier League goalkeepers who’ve made the most errors leading to goals over the past two seasons.
6. José Sá – 4 Errors
Club: Wolves
Appearances: 59
Goals Conceded: 100
The Wolves goalkeeper has been in and out of the starting lineup this season, sharing duties with Sam Johnstone. Despite showing reliability at times, Sá has been responsible for four errors that led directly to goals since 2023.
5. Wes Foderingham – 5 Errors
Club: Sheffield United (2023/24)
Appearances: 30
Goals Conceded: 79
Although he hasn’t featured this season for West Ham, Foderingham’s difficult campaign with Sheffield United last year puts him in the top five. He made five errors leading to goals during that spell, in what was a challenging season for both club and keeper.
=3. Bart Verbruggen – 6 Errors
Club: Brighton
Save Percentage: 64.5% (One of the lowest in the PL)
Brighton’s young goalkeeper has had moments of promise but has also been prone to costly mistakes. With six errors resulting in goals since 2023, Verbruggen’s inconsistency has placed him near the top of this list.
=3. Robert Sánchez – 6 Errors
Club: Chelsea
Errors This Season Alone: 5
After joining Chelsea, Sánchez has found himself under pressure for a number of key mistakes. Having made just one goal-leading error in 2023, he’s added five more this season, making him one of the most error-prone keepers in the league.
Pundits have not been kind either — Jamie Carragher once commented that Sánchez might be better suited to a bottom-half team, following a major mistake against Wolves.
2. Arijanet Muric – 7 Errors
Clubs: Burnley / Ipswich
Appearances: 28
Goals Conceded per Game: 1.75
Muric has struggled to shake off the reputation of being inconsistent. His record includes seven errors in just 28 games, which averages out to a mistake every four matches—by far the worst ratio among this group.
1. Andre Onana – 9 Errors
Club: Manchester United
Joined: 2023
Errors Leading to Goals: 9 (All Competitions)
Andre Onana has been under the spotlight ever since arriving at Manchester United, and not always for the right reasons. Despite some important saves, particularly in domestic games, he’s been directly at fault for nine goals—the most of any Premier League goalkeeper since 2023.
Criticism has come from all angles, including former teammate Nemanja Matic, who controversially called him “one of the worst keepers in United’s history.” While harsh, the numbers suggest that Onana’s debut seasons in England have been far from convincing.
Rank | Goalkeeper | Club(s) | Errors |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Andre Onana | Manchester United | 9 |
2 | Arijanet Muric | Burnley / Ipswich | 7 |
=3 | Bart Verbruggen | Brighton | 6 |
=3 | Robert Sánchez | Chelsea | 6 |
5 | Wes Foderingham | Sheffield United | 5 |
6 | José Sá | Wolves | 4 |

Matic was right! But didn’t know he was on the top list based from 23/until now. I thought that it was either Sanchez or Muric.

Obviously United should get a new GK. You don't see any of the top 6 teams in here, but only Sanchez from Chelsea.
