Nottingham Forest are facing an anxious wait over the fitness of key players Chris Wood and Anthony Elanga ahead of their crucial Premier League showdown with Everton at the City Ground on Saturday.
Both players are still being assessed following recent injuries, and manager Nuno Espirito Santo has remained tight-lipped about their availability in his latest press conference.
Chris Wood's scoring form disrupted
Striker Chris Wood has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career, scoring 18 goals in 29 Premier League appearances. However, a hip injury sustained during the March international break has kept him sidelined for Forest’s last three matches.
The 33-year-old has been a key figure in Forest's attack, and his absence has been noticeable. His potential return would be a major boost in a high-stakes fixture against fellow relegation battlers Everton.
Anthony Elanga a doubt after Aston Villa setback
Winger Anthony Elanga has also impressed this season with his direct attacking play and goal involvement. He was forced off at halftime during Forest’s 2-1 loss to Aston Villa, and is now racing against time to be fit for the weekend.
Together with Taiwo Awoniyi, Wood and Elanga are part of a trio Forest are desperate to have available for such a pivotal game.
Nuno remains cautious on fitness updates
When asked about the players’ fitness in his pre-match media duties, manager Nuno Espirito Santo said:
"We’re still assessing all of them. They’ve been struggling with problems – some small, some not so small – but we have one more day and then we’ll see if they can be available for the game."
Asked if he was hopeful any would feature, Nuno replied:
"All of them. All of them could play or none of them. It depends on how they recover and how they feel. It’s about that."
Ola Aina ruled out with calf injury
Defender Ola Aina will miss the Everton match after picking up a calf issue during Forest’s 1-0 win over Manchester United. He was forced off in the first half and won’t be available this weekend.
"For this game, no, unfortunately not," said Nuno. "For the next one, we hope. He is spending a lot of time at the training ground receiving treatment. We are trying to get him back as soon as possible."
