Alan Shearer predicts Ange Postecoglou has 3 games to save Forest job

Ange Postecoglou’s Nottingham Forest tenure is already under threat after just a month in charge. The former Tottenham Hotspur boss, who succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo in early September, is still searching for his first win and has seen Forest slip to 17th in the Premier League table, just one point clear of relegation.

Speculation over his future is intensifying, with Football Place sources revealing owner Evangelos Marinakis is considering alternatives, including Fulham manager Marco Silva. In such a high-pressure environment, Postecoglou is under no illusions: results must improve quickly, or his City Ground stay could be brutally short.

Newcastle United club legend Alan Shearer has now weighed in on the precarious situation, warning that Postecoglou could have as few as three games left to save his job. For a coach who only months ago was leading Spurs, the speed of this downturn reflects the unforgiving nature of top-flight management.

Shearer issues stark warning for Postecoglou

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ Weekend Wrap, Shearer was blunt about the situation:

“You know the rules when you go into football management, and you have to accept that. If he doesn’t get a result pretty soon, i.e., the next game or at least the one after, he might not have a job anyway.” — Alan Shearer

Forest’s next three fixtures could therefore prove decisive: a daunting clash with Chelsea on 18 October, a Europa League test against Porto, and a vital away trip to Bournemouth. The consensus is that Postecoglou must deliver a turnaround in this period to hold on.

Forest mood at a low ebb

Despite last season’s memorable run of success, the atmosphere at the club has soured. Reports suggest Postecoglou has been an “isolated” presence on the training ground, rarely engaging with players, which has done little to lift morale during their winless streak.

The manager’s struggles also carry echoes of his final months at Tottenham, where results tailed off sharply. Unless Forest rediscover their spark immediately, Postecoglou could soon face the same fate he endured in north London.

Analyst verdict: three-game ultimatum

FootballPlace analyst John William says the situation is critical:

“Ange Postecoglou arrived with a reputation for attacking football and leadership, but in the Premier League patience is minimal. With Marco Silva already mentioned, the ownership clearly has contingency plans. Three games is exactly the kind of time frame boards use to judge whether a season can be salvaged.”

Key insights

  • Postecoglou winless after seven games in charge at Forest.
  • Forest sit 17th, one point above the relegation zone.
  • Alan Shearer predicts the boss has “next game or one after” to get results.
  • Chelsea, Porto and Bournemouth clashes could define his future.
  • Reports suggest Postecoglou appears isolated on the training pitch.

What’s next?

Forest’s October fixtures will shape not only their season but Postecoglou’s tenure. A positive result against Chelsea would ease the pressure, but defeat could place even more weight on the Porto and Bournemouth matches.

Should the poor run continue, Marinakis may act swiftly, with Silva and other candidates already in the frame. For Postecoglou, the margin for error is now razor-thin – and the next three matches could decide everything.

My days, we have to suffer for 3 more games. I think after Chelsea he’s gone - but who’s next? Silva? 10 mil buyout and why would he join when there’s owner like this at Forest.
