Patrick Dorgu says Manchester United “playing more as a team” as spirit grows under Amorim

Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu believes Manchester United’s resurgence this season is rooted in one thing above all else: togetherness. The Denmark international says the squad’s unity has transformed performances on the pitch, helping Rúben Amorim’s side turn difficult moments into valuable points as they climb the Premier League table.

Recent matches have reinforced that narrative. United came from behind to earn results away at Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur — the latter while playing with 10 men — and delivered a dominant second-half display in a 4–1 win at Wolves despite the frustration of conceding an equaliser seconds before the break.

Even small in-game decisions reflected a shift in mindset: Matheus Cunha choosing to set up Bruno Fernandes for the opener, or Diogo Dalot squaring to Bryan Mbeumo for a simple tap-in. Dorgu sees these moments as evidence of a team moving with a shared purpose.

“I think we play more as a team now,” he told club media. “We try to get everyone involved and we just need to keep going and hopefully do well. We’re still in a good position in the league.”

“We’re more together this season than when I arrived”

Dorgu made his 15th appearance of the campaign when coming off the bench at Molineux, having featured in every game this season except the 3–2 home win over Burnley. The squad’s depth will soon be tested, however, with Noussair Mazraoui, Amad and Mbeumo all set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Asked whether United’s improvement this season was down to footballing changes or dressing-room culture, Dorgu felt it was a blend of both.

“I think it’s both. We’re more together this season than when I came in the beginning. Pre-season was good to integrate everybody and bond the team. The results before the international break helped build that spirit too.”

The 20-year-old wing-back has settled quickly into life in Manchester since joining from Lecce, and he speaks with the confidence of a player who feels comfortable in his environment.
“It’s been good,” he said. “I have my own place, my family visit a lot… I think I’ve adapted to the league well, so I’m happy with the first year.”

Dorgu’s numbers reflect a player contributing quietly but consistently. His duel success, ball recoveries and progressive involvement show why Amorim trusts him in multiple systems. The creation of two big chances also hints at growing confidence in the final third — an area United hope he continues to develop.

A squad finally aligned with its manager

In our view, Dorgu’s comments point to a broader shift at Manchester United: players now understand their roles within a clearly defined tactical framework, and the communication between squad and manager appears stronger than at any point in recent seasons.

Having followed United’s evolution under Amorim, the biggest improvement isn’t simply structural — it’s emotional. The squad is no longer fractured by inconsistency or individual hesitation. Those selfless passes at Wolves weren’t isolated moments; they were symbolic of a side that believes success will come through trust and cohesion, not individual heroics.

There is still room for growth. United’s young core — Dorgu included — remain at the start of their development cycles. But the difference between this season and the instability of years past is unmistakable.

Why team spirit matters ahead of Bournemouth

United face Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday evening, a fixture that has historically tripped up United sides lacking rhythm. This squad, however, appears far more capable of handling adversity. With injuries and AFCON absences approaching, United’s depth will be tested — making unity even more critical.

If the mentality Dorgu describes continues, United may be able to navigate a challenging period without losing ground.
