Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has confirmed that long-time fan favourite Patrick Bamford is no longer part of his Premier League plans, following a goalless draw against Manchester United in pre-season.
Bamford, who joined Leeds in 2018 and helped fire them to promotion in 2020, is set to be offloaded despite still having a year left on his deal.
Farke: “He’s not in my plans for the Premier League season”
After Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Manchester United in Stockholm, Farke gave a brutally honest update on Bamford’s future:
“I told him that he’s not in my plans for the upcoming Premier League season… he’s trained really good, his fitness levels are really good, his reaction was top class.” — Daniel Farke
Farke stressed the personal respect he holds for Bamford, but said the 31-year-old needs to feel like “the main man” again — something Leeds can no longer offer at top-flight level.
Bamford’s Leeds Record
Season | Appearances | Goals |
---|---|---|
2018–2024 (all comps) | 205 | 60 |
2020–21 (Premier League) | 38 | 17 |
2023–24 (Championship) | 17 | 0 |
Lukas Nmecha Now Leads the Line
Leeds have moved quickly to replace Bamford with Germany international Lukas Nmecha, who arrived from Wolfsburg earlier this summer. He started the draw with Manchester United and is expected to be the main striker moving forward.
Farke praised his side’s performance, saying the young squad showed good control for large spells against high-level opposition.
Analyst Verdict
Bamford’s time at Leeds is nearing its end — but not for lack of effort. His injuries and lack of recent goals have forced a tactical reset. While it’s a sad farewell, this feels like the right moment to part ways.
