Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez has revealed the club “didn’t even listen” to Sunderland’s attempts to sign Víctor Muñoz during the January transfer window.

The Premier League side made a late push for the 22 year old winger, reportedly submitting multiple bids that rose to €25 million. However, Osasuna were unmoved.

Osasuna reject Sunderland approach for Víctor Muñoz

Speaking at a recent press conference, Vázquez made clear that Sunderland’s offers never gained traction.

“We didn’t even listen to them; we stuck to the clause,” he said.

Muñoz’s current contract includes a €40 million release clause — a figure Osasuna are determined to uphold.

Part of that stance is financial. The Spanish club would reportedly owe 50% of any transfer fee to Real Madrid, making a lower bid unattractive.

Player loyalty reinforced club’s decision

Vázquez also stressed Muñoz’s gratitude toward Osasuna, highlighting the environment the club provided after signing him from Real Madrid’s reserve setup.

“We brought him in from the Primera RFEF, where he’d only played 40 minutes in La Liga, and we paid €5m,” Vázquez explained.

“I told him he was going to experience personal and professional growth because it was the right environment, and he’s very grateful.

“As of today, we’re not considering him leaving, and neither is he.”

The suggestion is that both club and player aligned in rejecting a mid-season move.

Premier League interest growing

Sunderland were not alone in their pursuit. Tottenham have also been linked with Muñoz, underlining his rising profile.

Given Premier League financial power, meeting the €40 million clause would not be out of reach for English sides if interest intensifies in the summer.

However, it remains too early to determine whether any club will activate that clause outright.
