Omar Marmoush linked with Barcelona as Man City future questioned

Omar Marmoush Barcelona transfer interest has surfaced in Spain, with reports claiming the Manchester City forward is under consideration as the Catalan club prepare for a summer striker addition.

According to Sport, Barcelona have already identified a new No.9 as their top recruitment priority for next season. The market, however, is described as inflated and limited. Atlético Madrid’s Julián Álvarez remains the dream target, but a reported €150m valuation makes that pursuit unrealistic.

As a result, alternative profiles are being discussed internally — and Marmoush is among them.

Marmoush joined Manchester City in January 2025 from Eintracht Frankfurt for €75m after impressing in the Bundesliga. Pep Guardiola approved the signing, and Barcelona’s recruitment team had also tracked him during his time in Germany.

At Frankfurt, he operated with freedom across the frontline, combining mobility with direct attacking output. Those qualities are said to align with Hansi Flick’s tactical demands.

However, opportunities at City have been limited. Erling Haaland remains first-choice centrally, and Marmoush has often been deployed from the bench or in wider roles. A month away at the Africa Cup of Nations also disrupted his rhythm.

While he has contributed in cameos, consistent starting minutes have been scarce.

Reports in Spain suggest Marmoush would prioritise a project offering regular involvement and attacking prominence.

Barcelona are described as “positioned” should the player request an exit. Crucially, he is not their primary target, but circumstances could shift quickly if other negotiations stall.

From Manchester City’s perspective, valuation becomes central. Marmoush cost €75m just over a year ago. Sport claim he could be available for less if Guardiola approves a departure.

Such a move would indicate a strategic decision rather than a failed investment, particularly given Haaland’s untouchable status.

Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Galatasaray have also been linked in recent weeks, suggesting potential competition.

However, it remains too early to classify this as an active negotiation. No formal bid has been made, and much will depend on the player’s stance once the campaign concludes.

Barcelona will continue assessing striker alternatives as the season winds down. Manchester City are unlikely to act before clarity emerges on Marmoush’s own intentions. Much may hinge on squad planning discussions between Guardiola and club hierarchy once domestic and European campaigns conclude.
