Oliver Glasner Crystal Palace banner controversy overshadowed a crucial 1-0 win over Wolves at Selhurst Park, with the manager insisting he never intended to disrespect supporters.

Before kick-off, fans unveiled a banner reading “fans disrespected – Glasner finished” in response to comments made by the Palace boss earlier in the week. A second banner criticised the club’s board, reflecting wider frustration following a Conference League draw against Zrinjski Mostar.

Despite the tension, Palace secured victory thanks to a 90th-minute goal from Evann Guessand.

Oliver Glasner Crystal Palace banner response

Glasner had previously urged fans to “stay humble”, remarks that were interpreted by some as dismissive. Speaking after Sunday’s win, he rejected that interpretation and apologised if his words caused offence.

“It’s the way fans can express their opinion,” he said. “That’s completely fine. Everybody can tell what he thinks and I do the same. I say what I think is the right thing.

“I think I never disrespected anyone. If somebody felt to be disrespected, then I want to say sorry because I never want to disrespect anyone.”

There were audible boos as he applauded supporters after full-time, though many fans also clapped back.

Glasner emphasised his belief in humility as a principle rather than a criticism.

“Stay humble. Never forget where you're coming from,” he added.

Club backing and contract clarity

Speculation over Glasner’s future intensified following his pre-match comments, but he confirmed that the club hierarchy and players continue to support him.

“If the club believes they will have a better result, I don’t want to stand in the way,” he said. “But it’s completely the opposite. The club believes, the players believe.”

His contract runs until June, and he stated that both the board and squad remain aligned behind his leadership.

The match itself was tense. Wolves had Ladislav Krejci sent off, while Dean Henderson saved a penalty from Tolu Arokodare before Guessand’s late strike secured all three points.

Upcoming fixtures will likely determine whether the focus shifts fully back to performances on the pitch.
