Vlachodimos gives Sevilla green light as Newcastle talks continue

Odysseas Vlachodimos is reportedly prepared to push for a permanent move away from Newcastle United this summer, with Sevilla confident of securing his signature.

The Greek goalkeeper joined Sevilla on loan last summer and has impressed during his spell in La Liga, quickly becoming one of the club’s standout performers. Spanish outlet Vamos Mi Sevilla now claim that the 30-year-old has given a “definitive yes” to staying beyond the current campaign.

Sevilla view Vlachodimos as a key pillar for next season and director of football Antonio Cordón is said to be working behind the scenes to finalise a deal. Reports indicate that an agreement has already been reached with the player on a four-year contract, designed to compensate for the remaining two years on his Newcastle deal.

The goalkeeper is understood to be settled in Spain and eager to make the move permanent. According to the same report, he is even “willing to force his way out” of Newcastle if necessary to secure the transfer.

Having followed Newcastle’s squad management closely, it is clear the club invested heavily when signing him for around €22m two summers ago. That valuation now forms a significant obstacle in negotiations.

Sevilla are reportedly prepared to offer around €5m to secure the deal. Newcastle, however, are expected to demand a substantially higher fee to limit losses on their initial outlay.

Talks between the clubs are ongoing, though there remains a considerable gap in valuation. The situation is further complicated by Sevilla’s league position. Relegation would likely end any hopes of a permanent transfer, though confidence within the club reportedly remains high regarding survival.

However, it remains too early to suggest an agreement is close. Newcastle retain contractual leverage and are under no obligation to accept a reduced figure.

Negotiations are expected to continue into the summer window. Sevilla must first secure their La Liga status before accelerating discussions.

Much will depend on whether Newcastle soften their financial demands or if Sevilla increase their offer. Without movement from either side, a compromise may prove difficult.
