Nottingham Forest have made a fresh enquiry for Napoli forward Lorenzo Lucca, with the Premier League club requesting information on a possible move in the last few hours, according to Italian transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The 25-year-old striker has endured a frustrating campaign in Italy following his move to Napoli, and his limited involvement has now placed his future firmly on the agenda as the January window develops.

Limited minutes raise questions

Lucca joined Napoli from Udinese on a loan deal with an obligation to buy, but opportunities have been scarce. He has played just 386 minutes in Serie A, with his last league start coming back in October.

More concerning is the lack of recent involvement. Since the beginning of November, Lucca has featured for only 40 minutes, a situation that is beginning to attract attention from clubs looking to offer him regular football.

With international ambitions in mind ahead of the World Cup, the striker is understood to be keen on increasing his playing time.

Forest monitoring the situation

Di Marzio reports that Nottingham Forest’s recruitment team are closely tracking Lucca’s situation and have actively requested details on his availability in recent hours.

Forest are not alone. Benfica are also monitoring developments, with Lucca’s future increasingly seen as an open question inside Napoli.

A complicated deal

Any move, however, is far from straightforward. Napoli have not yet completed the permanent signing of Lucca from Udinese, which complicates the structure of any potential transfer.

As things stand, there has been no discussion of a permanent deal, with a loan exit appearing the most realistic scenario should Napoli and the player agree that a temporary separation is best.

The final decision may come down to Lucca himself. There remains a chance he opts to stay and fight for his place under Antonio Conte, but a lack of minutes suggests alternatives are being seriously considered.

Forest weighing their options

From Forest’s perspective, the move carries both opportunity and risk. Lucca’s profile fits their search for physical presence and depth in attack, but the complexity of Napoli’s agreement with Udinese could slow negotiations considerably.

For now, Forest’s approach is exploratory rather than advanced.

Key insights

  • Nottingham Forest have requested information on Lorenzo Lucca
  • Striker has played just 386 Serie A minutes this season
  • Napoli signed him on loan with obligation to buy
  • Benfica are also monitoring the situation
  • Any deal would likely be a loan rather than permanent

What’s next?

Lucca’s situation is expected to develop gradually rather than quickly. Napoli must first clarify their own contractual position before any move can progress, meaning Forest may need patience if they decide to pursue the deal further.

Would Lorenzo Lucca be a smart short-term solution for Nottingham Forest — or is the deal too complicated to pursue?
