Nottingham Forest’s once-promising bid for a Champions League berth has hit a major stumbling block following a 2-0 loss at Brentford. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has admitted his team is now "struggling" and in danger of letting a fairytale season slip away. Just weeks ago, Forest sat in the top four, but a run of three defeats in four Premier League games has seen them fall to sixth place — and exit the FA Cup in the semi-finals.

Cracks in the Foundation

Despite a solid start under Nuno, recent performances have raised alarms. After a heavy week that included two 2-0 losses — one to Manchester City in the FA Cup and the other to Brentford — Forest now face an uphill battle to secure European qualification.

“We don’t have to change, we have to go back and find our version.” — Nuno Espirito Santo

Nuno cited a lack of focus and basic defensive errors as key issues in their slump.

“With all respect to Brentford, it was too easy… we could have solved the situations.” — Nuno Espirito Santo

Despite the setbacks, the Portuguese manager remains hopeful of a turnaround, highlighting the possibility of achieving a record eighth-place finish if the team regains form quickly.

Brentford’s Impact and Key Stats

Brentford’s sharp attacking play exposed Forest’s defensive frailties. Here are the standout stats from Brentford’s key performer, Bryan Mbeumo:

Key Call-Outs

  • Forest have lost 3 of their last 4 Premier League games
  • Currently sitting 6th in the league table
  • Knocked out of the FA Cup semi-final by Manchester City (2-0)
  • Could still finish eighth, their best-ever Premier League position
  • Next match: Crystal Palace on May 5 at Selhurst Park

What’s Next for Nottingham Forest?

Forest’s next match against Crystal Palace on May 5 is crucial. A win could reignite their European ambitions, while another slip-up might cement a disappointing end to an otherwise remarkable campaign.

“There are four games left… it demands that we do what we’ve done so well over the last four years – laser-like focus.” — Nuno Espirito Santo

FAQ Section

Can Nottingham Forest still qualify for the Champions League?
It’s mathematically possible, but unlikely. They must win all remaining games and rely on teams above them to drop points.

Why is Nottingham Forest struggling recently?
Nuno cites loss of focus and defensive lapses. Fatigue and pressure during a packed fixture list may also be factors.

What is Forest’s best-ever finish in the Premier League?
Forest have never finished higher than 9th in the Premier League era. Eighth would be a historic achievement.

They’ll go to Europe anyways, but that won’t be the big money Europe unfortunately. Nothing against Forest, but the season is too long for them.

They're lost! They'where up there the whole season, they're not gonna make it. Despite that, still a good season and I think Forest fans should be happy with how this season is going to end!
