Leeds United have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Nico Elvedi, with Daniel Farke's side now preparing an official offer for the Borussia Mönchengladbach defender.

However, the Switzerland international's move to Elland Road is expected to depend on Sebastiaan Bornauw completing a departure, making it a transfer that could rely on two separate deals falling into place.

Leeds agree personal terms with Elvedi

According to Sky Germany, Leeds have already reached a verbal agreement with Elvedi over a contract running until 2029.

The report claims the two parties have reached a full understanding on personal terms, leaving club-to-club negotiations as the next stage of the process.

Leeds are now expected to submit an official bid to Borussia Mönchengladbach, with talks between the clubs set to begin.

Elvedi has also reportedly informed the Bundesliga side that he is ready to leave, with the Premier League viewed as his preferred destination after previously coming close to joining Wolves.

Bornauw departure could unlock deal

While Leeds are progressing their pursuit of Elvedi, Sebastiaan Bornauw's future remains closely linked to the proposed transfer.

Hamburger SV continue to push for the Belgian defender and are hoping to complete a loan deal with an option to buy.

Bornauw has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with the Bundesliga club, but negotiations between Leeds and Hamburg have yet to be finalised.

Should Bornauw leave Elland Road, Leeds would immediately free up space to complete Elvedi's arrival.

Leeds face key decision

The biggest obstacle now appears to be the structure of Bornauw's exit.

Hamburg are pushing for an initial loan, while Leeds must decide whether they are willing to sanction a temporary departure rather than holding out for a permanent transfer.

If an agreement is reached, Elvedi's move could accelerate quickly, with personal terms already settled and the defender keen on the switch. However, until Bornauw's future is resolved, Leeds are unlikely to press ahead with a formal agreement.

Key Points

  • Leeds United have reached a verbal agreement with Nico Elvedi.

  • Leeds are preparing an official offer for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
  • Sebastiaan Bornauw's move to Hamburg is expected to unlock the transfer.

What's Next?

Leeds are expected to submit their first formal offer for Elvedi once negotiations surrounding Bornauw's future become clearer. If Hamburg can reach an agreement with the Whites, the domino effect could allow Leeds to quickly finalise a deal for the Switzerland international before the transfer window closes.

Would Nico Elvedi be an upgrade for Leeds United if Sebastiaan Bornauw leaves this summer?
