Nick Woltemade not planning Newcastle exit despite Bayern interest

Nick Woltemade is “certainly not” planning a summer exit from Newcastle United, according to German journalist Julian Agardi, although interest from Bayern Munich continues to linger in the background.

The 23-year-old striker joined Newcastle last summer in a €75 million deal, beating Bayern to his signature after weeks of negotiations involving Stuttgart. At the time, reports in Germany suggested Bayern viewed Woltemade as a long-term successor to Harry Kane.

Speaking on the Bayern Insider podcast, Agardi dismissed suggestions that Woltemade is currently preparing for a move.

“Nick Woltemade isn’t currently giving any thought to what might happen after the summer,” he said. “His focus is on improving at Newcastle and on the World Cup. Everything else is secondary.”

That stance comes amid reports in England claiming Newcastle could consider reshaping their forward line in the summer window.

Having followed Woltemade’s first season closely, adaptation has been mixed. While flashes of quality remain evident, his output has not yet matched the scale of the investment.

Agardi, however, was careful not to shut the door entirely on a future switch to Bavaria.

“If someone like Woltemade has committed himself to FC Bayern as much as he did last summer, then the issue is certainly not off the table for him. It certainly hasn’t faded within a year,” he added.

Bayern were reportedly frustrated when Newcastle outbid them decisively, and the German champions remain attentive to developments.

The financial aspect may prove the biggest obstacle. Bayern previously considered Newcastle’s €75 million valuation excessive and would likely seek a reduced figure should discussions reopen.

Another factor is Bayern’s substantial investment in Luis Díaz, whose return has reportedly justified the club’s spending strategy. Compared to Díaz’s impact, Woltemade’s numbers have been less compelling.

It remains too early to determine whether Newcastle would entertain offers. With contract length and market leverage on their side, any negotiation would likely require a significant proposal.

Woltemade’s immediate focus will be finishing the season strongly and securing international ambitions ahead of the World Cup.

Newcastle’s transfer strategy will become clearer closer to the summer window. If Bayern revive interest, valuation and performance trajectory will shape any potential talks.
