The German press continues to fuel speculation that Nick Woltemade could one day end up at Bayern Munich, despite the forward only joining Newcastle United in a big-money deal this summer.
According to BILD journalist Christian Falk, Bayern’s interest in Woltemade has not faded since they missed out on his signature, and the player himself still views the Bundesliga champions as a long-term dream destination.
Falk made the comments on Bayern’s transfer show True or Not True, where he discussed the 23-year-old’s impressive start to life in England — and why the story between Bayern and Woltemade might not be over just yet.
Bayern still lurking despite Newcastle move
Woltemade joined Newcastle from Stuttgart earlier this year in a deal reportedly worth around €60 million, following a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga. He was brought in as a long-term replacement for Alexander Isak, who departed for Manchester United, and has already made an instant impact under Eddie Howe.
However, Falk insists that Bayern’s admiration for the striker remains — and couldn’t resist a subtle dig at Newcastle in the process.
“You have to say: Nick Woltemade is a very hot commodity in the Premier League right now,” Falk said. “He signed with Newcastle for a lot of money until 2031. He’s already scored four goals in the Premier League and one in the Champions League. He’s only 23 years old, and he could have very well imagined a move to Munich. And I’ve heard it isn’t over either! Bayern is simply a step above Newcastle.”
The journalist added that Bayern’s failure to meet Stuttgart’s asking price earlier this year opened the door for Newcastle to swoop in. Despite that, he believes the player’s admiration for the German giants “will continue to appeal to him in the future.”
A star on the rise at Newcastle
Since making the move to Tyneside, Woltemade has wasted no time adapting to the Premier League. The 6’4″ forward has already scored five goals in nine appearances across all competitions this season.
His blend of physicality, intelligent movement, and composure in front of goal has earned praise from both Howe and fans alike, with many viewing him as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe.

Bayern’s missed opportunity
Bayern’s pursuit of Woltemade earlier this year ultimately collapsed after a series of low-ball offers to Stuttgart. The Bavarians reportedly hesitated over the asking price, believing they could return late in the window with an improved bid — but Newcastle’s financial muscle and swift negotiation left them out of the race.
Since then, some in Germany have continued to question the player’s decision to move to England, with Falk’s latest comments being the latest example of what Newcastle supporters have called “constant stirring” from the German media.
Our View
In our view, Bayern’s interest in Woltemade makes perfect sense — he fits the classic No. 9 profile. But Newcastle’s project is now strong enough to retain players of his calibre, particularly with Eddie Howe building a squad capable of competing in Europe.
Falk’s suggestion that Bayern are “a step above” Newcastle may still hold some truth in terms of global status, but on current form and financial strength, the Magpies are no longer an easy club to poach from.
Analyst Verdict
FootballPlace analyst Liam Rowe writes:
Nick Woltemade’s rise has been one of the best transfer stories of the season. His early form justifies Newcastle’s investment, and his development under Howe looks on track.
The Bayern talk feels premature — the player’s under a long contract, and Newcastle are growing into a European powerhouse. That said, if he continues scoring at this rate, it’s inevitable the Bavarians will come knocking again in the future.
