Newcastle United are preparing for their next Premier League clash against [Brighton & Hove Albion] with a depleted squad as four key players continue their recovery from injury. Despite impressive back-to-back victories over Union SG and Nottingham Forest last week, Eddie Howe’s men must once again contend with absentees that have stretched his options across defence and midfield.
Here’s the latest on when Newcastle can expect to welcome their sidelined stars back.
Tino Livramento – knee injury
The 21-year-old full-back suffered a worrying setback when he was stretchered off against [Arsenal] with a knee injury. Having already endured 13 months out earlier in his career with an ACL tear, there were initial fears of another long-term absence.
Howe, however, has since offered a more optimistic outlook:
“Tino, we think, will be out roughly around six to eight weeks, which is probably positive from where we were after the game thinking it might be months.” — Eddie Howe
Expected return date: Manchester City (H), 22 October.
Yoane Wissa – knee injury
Deadline day signing Yoane Wissa is still waiting to make his Newcastle debut after picking up a knee injury while on international duty with DR Congo. The £55m forward has been receiving treatment at the club but has avoided surgery.
“It was a huge blow,” Howe admitted. “We didn’t even see Yoane before the injury, but touch wood it’s not a long-term one.”
Expected return date: Manchester City (H), 22 October.
Jacob Ramsey – ankle injury
Newcastle’s £39m summer recruit from [Aston Villa] was injured just as he was beginning to settle in. After coming on against Liverpool and starting away at Leeds, the midfielder was forced off with an ankle problem following a tackle from Sean Longstaff.
Ramsey is now back on the grass and building fitness. Howe indicated that the plan is for him to feature directly after the international break.
Expected return date: Brighton (A), 18 October.
Lewis Hall – hamstring injury
It has been a difficult period for Hall, who returned from ankle surgery earlier this year only to suffer a new hamstring problem. Howe confirmed that the full-back will undergo another scan in mid-October to assess the severity.
“Before we get conclusive evidence of how long he will be out, he needs a re-scan in about 10 days. It’s not going to be short-term, but we hope it’s not a long-term one either,” Howe said.
Expected return date: Unknown.
Analyst Verdict
FootballPlace analyst John William believes Newcastle’s injury picture is improving just in time:
“Livramento, Wissa and Ramsey are all pencilled in for mid-to-late October, which will ease the pressure on Howe’s squad depth. The concern remains Lewis Hall, who could face a longer absence. Still, Newcastle’s ability to pick up wins despite these setbacks underlines the resilience of this group.”
Key Insights
- Livramento could return in late October after knee scare.

What’s Next for Newcastle?
With Brighton on the horizon and Manchester City looming afterwards, Howe will hope to reintegrate at least two of his sidelined stars before the month is out. A return for Ramsey and Livramento would add depth in both midfield and defence, while Wissa’s long-awaited debut could boost attacking options ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

Livra and Hall have been proven been important for Newcastle. Ramsey and Wissa Newcastle havent seen anything of it yet, but I do a second striker someone like Wissa they would love to have him fit back as the first player, but thats not going to happen.
