Leeds United’s resurgence under Daniel Farke continues to draw attention, and ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Crystal Palace at Elland Road, two Premier League legends have offered sharply contrasting predictions. Gary Neville believes Leeds will ride their momentum into another significant result, while Ian Wright expects Palace to maintain their impressive away form.

Leeds are a transformed side from the one that faltered through the early stages of the campaign. A tactical shift at half-time against Manchester City last month sparked improvement despite a narrow 3–2 defeat, and Farke’s side have since collected valuable points against Chelsea, Liverpool and Brentford. Their recent 1–1 draw away at Brentford may have lacked spectacle, but it showed discipline and progression in areas that previously cost them matches.

Palace, however, present one of the Premier League’s sternest away examinations. Oliver Glasner’s side have won three consecutive league matches on the road and remain in the top five despite injury concerns and fatigue from a demanding European schedule. They host KuPS in the Conference League tonight before travelling to West Yorkshire with only a brief recovery window.

Neville: “Leeds have turned my head”

Gary Neville has been particularly impressed by Leeds’ growing intensity. Having been on commentary duty for Leeds’ last two home games — the 3–1 win over Chelsea and the frantic 3–3 draw with Liverpool — he believes Farke’s side now have an identity that opponents must prepare for.

“Leeds look a lot better by the way. Leeds have turned my head,” Neville said on The Overlap while making his Super 6 predictions. “Leeds are high energy, 2–1 Leeds. I think they’re a lot better.”

Neville pointed to Elland Road’s atmosphere as another factor, noting how the floodlit fixtures against Chelsea and Liverpool elevated the team’s performance. Saturday’s 8pm kick-off is expected to create a similar environment, something Leeds have consistently fed off in recent weeks.

Wright sees goals — and Palace edging it

Ian Wright, a former Crystal Palace forward, offered a very different outlook. While he acknowledged Leeds’ improvement and the difficulty of travelling to Elland Road, he believes Palace’s attacking patterns and resilience away from home could see them take advantage of Leeds’ open, high-tempo style.

“Leeds at home is going to be tough, but I fancy Palace to do something,” Wright said. “The atmosphere there is so good. If Palace can see that off… but they keep coming, Leeds. I’m thinking out loud. I’m gonna go Palace, 3–2 Palace.”

Wright anticipates another goal-heavy encounter, reflecting Leeds’ recent form: three goals scored in each of their last two home matches and two goals at Manchester City after switching to a 3-5-2 system.

Glasner’s side are expected to rotate on Thursday night with knockout qualification already secured, but fatigue remains a concern. The Austrian coach admitted he will not start anyone in both matches across the 48-hour period, further complicating team selection.

Injury updates ahead of the match

Leeds could be boosted by the return of striker Lukas Nmecha, who has missed two fixtures with a hamstring issue. His availability would offer Farke a much-needed central option, particularly with the team’s recent attacking fluidity.

Long-term absentees Daniel James and Sean Longstaff remain sidelined until the New Year. Palace, meanwhile, continue to juggle minor knocks throughout their squad as they work through a congested fixture list.

A matchup defined by tempo, rotation and momentum

Leeds vs Palace has the makings of a uniquely balanced contest. Leeds arrive with rhythm, structure and belief — qualities that have formed the backbone of their recent unbeaten run across marquee fixtures. Their shift to a more compact midfield and direct transitions has revitalised their attack, particularly at Elland Road.

Palace, despite fatigue, carry a threat rooted in tactical intelligence. Glasner’s vertical, fast-paced transitions have powered their away winning streak, and even with rotation, they maintain patterns capable of stretching Leeds’ defensive line.

Although some pundits may pick Leeds based purely on recent form, it’s worth questioning whether Palace’s road resilience and counter-attacking precision give them a slight edge. In our view, the outcome hinges on which side controls the tempo — Leeds with relentless energy, or Palace with sharp execution in key moments.
