Moisés Caicedo credits father’s advice for Chelsea goalscoring form

Moisés Caicedo has revealed the secret behind his newfound eye for goal at Chelsea — and it’s not from the training ground, but from home.

The Ecuadorian international says every goal he scores comes down to one piece of wisdom passed down from his father. After being encouraged to shoot more often, the 24-year-old has doubled his previous scoring record in England, netting four goals so far this season to become Chelsea’s joint-top scorer across all competitions.

Speaking to the club’s official media, Caicedo explained:

“For a long time, my dad always talked to me and said I have to shoot on target, because I have a lot of possibilities to score goals. I tried to listen to my dad — that is why now I am shooting. So when I score goals, I just remember him. It is because of him.”

From Ecuador to England — The Journey

Caicedo’s path from Independiente del Valle to the Premier League has been one of perseverance and growth. The midfielder first arrived in England with Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021 before completing his high-profile move to Chelsea two years later.
The transition, he admits, was not easy.

“It was a very big change because I left my family back in Ecuador. I came to England on my own, so it was a very difficult moment for me. But it was a very good opportunity to show my football. Now I’m enjoying every moment — I’m living a dream.”

Since adapting to life in London, Caicedo has evolved into one of the Premier League’s most reliable midfielders. His technical discipline, defensive awareness, and composure have all been complemented this season by a growing sense of attacking purpose.

Learning Every Day

Despite being in excellent form, Caicedo insists he’s far from satisfied and continues to treat every match and training session as a learning opportunity.

“Every day I want to improve because you never stop learning. Every time I go to training or play a match, I learn something. I’m doing fantastic, but I need to improve every day because you never stop learning.”

That mindset has made him a vital part of Chelsea’s recent upturn in form. The Blues have won three of their last four Premier League matches, losing just once in their last eight across all competitions.

Key to Chelsea’s Revival

Caicedo’s influence was clear in last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, where he dominated midfield and set up the game’s only goal. His consistency has finally earned him the widespread praise many expected following his British-record transfer from Brighton in 2023.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge, Caicedo says the squad’s confidence is growing under Enzo Maresca.

“I think we are doing fantastic at the moment. The feeling is very good. It’s a big club — we always want to win trophies — but we go step-by-step because it’s a long season.”
