Mohammed Kudus has suffered another setback — and Tottenham could now be without him for the rest of the season.
Roberto De Zerbi confirmed the news ahead of his first game in charge, admitting the winger was a big part of his plans before the latest injury blow.
Mohammed Kudus setback leaves Tottenham short
Kudus had only just returned to full training after a long spell out with a quad injury, and there was hope he could play a part in the run-in.
That’s now on hold again.
Spurs confirmed the Ghana international has suffered a setback and will need further assessment, with surgery still a possibility.
“Kudus was in my head a crucial player… but we have to look forward.” — Roberto De Zerbi
From what we’ve seen, that likely rules him out for the final weeks of the campaign, and it also puts his World Cup involvement at risk. However, it remains too early to confirm the full extent until further tests are completed.
De Zerbi turns to attacking depth
With Kudus unavailable, De Zerbi is looking at the options he already has.
He pointed to several attacking players who now need to step up, even if not all of them have been consistent this season.
“We have a lot of very good attackers… we have to put them in the best condition.” — Roberto De Zerbi
Names like Randal Kolo Muani, Mathys Tel, Xavi Simons, Richarlison and Dominic Solanke are all expected to play a bigger role in the coming weeks.
Three-man injury update ahead of Sunderland clash
Kudus isn’t the only concern.
Guglielmo Vicario will miss the trip to Sunderland after undergoing hernia surgery, although there is hope he could return soon.
“I hope he can come back earlier next week, but I don’t know yet.” — Roberto De Zerbi
Pape Matar Sarr is also being assessed after picking up a shoulder injury on international duty, while Rodrigo Bentancur is edging closer to a return.
“Bentancur is working with us, but not completely.” — Roberto De Zerbi
