Mathys Tel pushes for Tottenham exit after agent demands clarity

Tottenham are facing a growing internal issue involving Mathys Tel, after the forward’s agent flew to London on Monday to demand clarity — and made it clear his client wants out unless there is a change in the dugout.

According to Sky Sport Germany, Tel’s representatives have informed Tottenham that the 20-year-old no longer sees a future under Thomas Frank, citing frustration over a lack of playing time and recent squad decisions.

Tel’s situation escalated sharply at the start of the week when he was left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad for the second time this season. The decision is described in Germany as a “bitter blow” for the French forward, who does not accept the reasoning behind his exclusion.

His agent, Gadiri Camara, travelled to England immediately after the squad announcement to hold face-to-face talks with Spurs officials. The message delivered was direct: Tel wants to leave Tottenham unless Frank is dismissed.

Sky Sport Germany report that Tel feels unfairly treated by the current manager and increasingly uncomfortable in his role within the squad.

Tel’s camp believe his development has stalled under Frank, with limited minutes and diminishing trust. The contrast with his previous working relationship under Ange Postecoglou has only heightened dissatisfaction.

The Frenchman’s ambition to push for a World Cup place has also been damaged by his lack of exposure, further souring his outlook. Internally, Tel sees either a managerial change or a transfer as the only viable solutions.

From Tottenham’s perspective, the ultimatum is unlikely to be well received.

Interest in Tel is not lacking. Sky Sport Germany report that Ligue 1 clubs are monitoring the situation closely, with Paris FC — where Tel spent part of his youth career — particularly keen.

There has also been contact from clubs in England and Spain. A return to the Bundesliga, however, is currently off the table, with no German sides actively pursuing a deal.

Tel’s representatives are pushing for a clear resolution by the end of the week, increasing pressure on Spurs as the window enters its final phase.

Having followed Tottenham’s recent handling of player power closely, there is little indication the club would entertain a managerial decision driven by agent pressure. Frank’s position has already been under scrutiny due to results, but Tel’s situation is unlikely to influence board-level thinking.

Instead, a January exit — temporary or permanent — appears the more realistic outcome if no reconciliation is reached quickly.

However, it remains too early to draw firm conclusions. Tottenham may still attempt to manage the situation internally if they believe Tel retains long-term value.

Tottenham are expected to respond to Tel’s camp within days, with clarity sought before the weekend. If no assurances are given, transfer talks are likely to accelerate ahead of the deadline. Spurs must now decide whether to facilitate an exit or attempt to rebuild trust — but time is limited.
