Matheus Cunha reacts to deleted Instagram post amid Newcastle transfer links

Matheus Cunha has found himself at the center of transfer speculation and fan backlash this week as reports intensify about a potential summer move away from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 25-year-old Brazilian forward is expected to start when Wolves host Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux on Sunday afternoon. However, attention has shifted from the pitch to his possible departure, with Newcastle United among several top clubs showing strong interest.

Newcastle Targeting Cunha as Top Summer Signing
According to Mail Online, Newcastle are preparing to make Cunha a priority transfer target ahead of the 2025/26 season. The player has a £62.5 million release clause written into his current contract, making him one of the more expensive forward options on the market.
Other major clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, are also monitoring Cunha’s situation, impressed by his versatility and form this season. The Brazilian has notched 15 goals in 29 appearances for Wolves, playing in a variety of attacking roles—on the wing, as a striker, and in an advanced midfield position.

Controversy Over a Deleted Social Media Post
Amid the growing speculation, fan account Talking Wolves shared a screenshot of an alleged deleted Instagram storyposted by Cunha. The story reportedly said:
“Time to be happy, I will follow my dreams, not yours… So stay cool.”

This sparked immediate reaction among Wolves fans, with many interpreting the post as a hint toward his summer exit. However, Cunha responded directly to the account in the comments, writing “HAHAHAHAHA” followed by another comment criticizing the backlash he’s received:
“Do you know what you want? For people to not like me here. Unfortunately, I’m going to the field to solve the problem of your favorite club... Fans root for their own, they don’t create misfortunes all the time.”
Wolves Fans Divided Over Cunha's Response

Cunha’s reaction hasn’t gone down well with all supporters. While many appreciate his performances this season, others believe he has shown a lack of respect toward the club and fanbase. Some fans on social media even suggested that Wolves should sideline the forward for the rest of the campaign.
Despite the online drama, Cunha remains one of the club’s standout performers this season. His ability to play in multiple positions is a major draw for teams like Newcastle United, especially as they prepare for a possible return to Champions League football next season.

Whether Cunha will remain at Molineux beyond this summer remains uncertain, but with interest continuing to build and a release clause that gives clubs a clear price, a big-money transfer seems increasingly likely.
