Rashford agent meets Barcelona over €30m deal

Marcus Rashford Barcelona transfer talks have intensified after the forward’s agent was pictured arriving for negotiations in Spain, with the story dominating the front page of Sport.

Rashford joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United towards the end of last summer, following his return from a temporary spell at Aston Villa. The move has proved productive, with the England international registering 10 goals and 13 assists across competitions for Hansi Flick’s side.

Barcelona secured a €30 million purchase option as part of the agreement. Now, discussions over a permanent deal are underway.

According to Sport, Rashford’s agent Arturo Canales met Barcelona sporting director Deco at the club’s offices on Monday. Journalist Carlos Monfort also shared an image on social media reportedly showing Canales arriving for the meeting.

The report claims Barcelona are keen to extend Rashford’s stay as soon as possible, having been convinced by his performances.

However, the transfer fee remains the main obstacle.

Barcelona are understood to be attempting to negotiate the €30m clause downwards, while Manchester United’s position is described as firm.

Sport report that Manchester United see “no room” for negotiation on the agreed figure. From their perspective, Barcelona must either activate the clause or allow the player to return to Old Trafford.

Agent Kostas Theoharides, who works alongside Canales and maintains a strong relationship with Manchester United, was also present at the meeting. Barcelona hope those connections could facilitate flexibility in talks.

Rashford is reportedly willing to accept a salary reduction to make the move permanent.

Having followed United’s squad restructuring under Michael Carrick, clarity around Rashford’s future would form part of broader summer planning. However, it remains subject to confirmation whether Barcelona will meet the clause or continue to press for a discount.

Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks. Barcelona must decide whether to activate the clause outright or risk losing the player by pushing for a reduced fee. Manchester United, meanwhile, await formal action while preparing for summer squad decisions.
