Marcus Rashford has played down speculation about a possible return to Manchester United, insisting he hopes his loan spell at Barcelona is far from over after lifting his first trophy with the club.
The England international tasted silverware on Sunday night as FC Barcelona edged Real Madrid 3-2 in the Supercopa de España final in Jeddah. It marked a milestone moment for Rashford, who joined the Catalan giants on a season-long loan after falling out of favour at Old Trafford.
While uncertainty continues to surround Manchester United following the recent dismissal of Ruben Amorim, Rashford cut a relaxed and upbeat figure as he celebrated his first honour in Barcelona colours.
Rashford celebrates first Barcelona trophy
Speaking to club media after the final whistle, Rashford admitted the achievement carried special significance.
“Very happy today,” he said.
“It’s always the best feeling to win the first trophy. I hope now for the rest of the season we can go on to win some more.”
Reflecting on the performance, he added:
“It was a top performance. This is what we are capable of doing. There are still things to improve, like always, but today we enjoy this performance.”
The forward celebrated alongside fellow summer arrivals Joan Garcia and Roony Bardghji, as Barcelona added another trophy to their collection.
‘I hope not’ – Rashford addresses return talk
With Amorim’s exit opening the door to potential changes at Manchester United, Rashford has been loosely linked with a recall to Old Trafford. However, the 28-year-old was clear when asked whether this could be his only trophy with Barcelona.
“I hope not,” he said.
Rashford went on to describe his current situation as close to ideal.
“It’s really good,” he explained.
“When we win it makes it so much easier, but even in moments when we’re not playing so well, we stick together and act as a team. For me, it’s perfect. I’m really enjoying my time here.”
Barcelona are understood to be keen on exploring a permanent deal when Rashford’s loan expires at the end of the season.
Ran himself into the ground
Rashford’s contribution in the final went beyond goals. Operating wide, he worked tirelessly before being substituted late on.
Addressing a missed chance to wrap up the game, he was refreshingly honest.
“I had no energy in my legs,” he admitted.
That effort has been a recurring theme this season. Rashford now has seven goals and 11 assists in 27 appearances across all competitions, a return that underlines his revival since leaving Manchester.
Finding stability away from Old Trafford
The contrast between Rashford’s current environment and the turbulent end to his United spell is stark. While INEOS and the United hierarchy weigh up options such as Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Rashford is thriving in a settled, winning dressing room.
“This is the message,” he said.
“To come onto the pitch, try to create actions, try to score goals. Even in the last moments, we could and should score.”
