Marcelino Núñez has described playing in the Premier League with Ipswich Town as the fulfilment of a childhood dream after making an encouraging start to life at the club.
The Chile international has quickly embraced the intensity of England's top flight and believes the experience can also benefit him at international level.
Speaking while back with Chile, Núñez made clear just how significant the Ipswich opportunity has been after injuries previously disrupted his involvement with the national team.
Núñez delighted with Premier League opportunity
Speaking to La Tercera, Núñez admitted reaching the Premier League had been a long-term personal ambition.
“I’m very motivated. It’s what I wanted,” he said. “Since I was a child, I wanted to be in the Premier League and I was able to fulfil this dream, this desire.”
The midfielder has been encouraged by his opening appearances for Ipswich and believes playing at this level represents a significant step in his career.
“The first matches were very positive. Making your Premier League debut is another level.”
Núñez has already identified the intensity of Premier League football as something he can bring into the Chile setup, alongside the confidence and motivation generated by his move.
Ipswich survival remains the priority
Núñez is under no illusions about Ipswich's primary objective this season.
Survival is the target, and the Chilean expects the club to continue strengthening the squad with players capable of helping them remain in the Premier League.
“[Ipswich] are going to bring in players of great quality to stay up, which is what they want, and that just leaves me to work,” Núñez explained. “In football there are always opportunities.”
For the midfielder, that means concentrating on earning his place rather than worrying about additional competition.
His return to the Chile squad provides another positive development after injuries had previously kept him away. Núñez said he is “very happy and motivated” to be involved again ahead of three important international matches.
With his Premier League dream now achieved, his next challenge is turning an encouraging start into a consistent role for Ipswich.
