Marc Guehi has informed Crystal Palace that he will not be signing a new contract, manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed. The 25-year-old England international is now set to leave Selhurst Park next year, forcing the club into a major January decision regarding one of their most influential players.
Speaking ahead of Palace’s Premier League clash against Bournemouth, Glasner revealed that the club had made every effort to extend Guehi’s deal — only for the defender to make clear that he wants to pursue a new challenge.
“I think Marc has already told us that he doesn’t sign a new contract, so he will leave next year. The club wanted him to stay. They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, ‘No, I want to make something different,’ and that’s normal,” said Glasner.
Palace had previously blocked Guehi’s proposed £35 million move to Liverpool on Deadline Day after they failed to secure an adequate replacement in time. While the defender was said to be disappointed with that decision, he has continued to captain the team professionally, making 12 appearances across all competitions this season.
With Glasner himself out of contract next summer, Palace now face a tough dilemma: whether to sell their captain in January for a reduced fee or keep him for the rest of the campaign and risk losing him for free next summer.
Liverpool, Newcastle and Bayern Munich among admirers
Several clubs are expected to monitor Guehi’s situation closely in the coming months. Liverpool could revisit their interest as they remain short of defensive options, while Newcastle United — long-time admirers — may re-enter the race should they lose Sven Botman or Fabian Schär next year.
However, as FootballPlace exclusively reported on 7 October, sources close to the player say Guehi privately prefers a move to Bayern Munich. According to those familiar with his thinking, the centre-back has been impressed by the Bundesliga champions’ sporting project and the professionalism of their setup.
England captain Harry Kane and former Palace teammate Michael Olise are both understood to be advocating for his signature — a dynamic that could tilt the scales heavily in Bayern’s favour should he leave the Premier League in 2026.
Guehi’s importance and Palace’s defensive challenge
Guehi’s potential exit would leave a significant void in Palace’s back line. Since joining from Chelsea in 2021, he has become one of the most composed and reliable defenders in the league. His leadership and calmness in possession have been vital to the Eagles’ steady rise under Glasner, who guided the club to their first-ever European qualification last season.
Why Bayern Munich represents the perfect fit for Guehi
For Guehi, a move to Bayern Munich could represent the natural next step in his career. The German giants are actively seeking to refresh their defensive core, with Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano both facing uncertain futures. Guehi’s blend of composure, tactical discipline, and aerial strength makes him an ideal fit for Bayern’s evolving back line.
Sources in Germany suggest that Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, views Guehi as a long-term successor to de Ligt, and his ability to play out from the back would suit the team’s possession-heavy style. A switch to the Allianz Arena would also reunite him with familiar faces — both Harry Kane and Michael Olise — making the adaptation process smoother.
The prospect of linking up with fellow England internationals and competing regularly in the Champions League has reportedly appealed to Guehi, who sees the Bundesliga as a platform to elevate his international prospects further.
Analyst Verdict — by Liam Rowe, FootballPlace
In my view, Guehi’s decision feels inevitable — and entirely understandable. We believe his development has outgrown Crystal Palace’s current ceiling, and a move abroad could help him refine the technical aspects of his game even further.
Bayern’s interest reflects how his reputation has grown beyond the Premier League. If Palace can secure a respectable transfer fee in January, this could be a deal that benefits all parties — giving Guehi a deserved step up while funding a new defensive rebuild for Glasner’s side.

What’s Next
Crystal Palace are expected to reopen transfer talks in December, with Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Newcastle all monitoring Guehi’s situation. His current deal expires in 2026, but Palace’s willingness to negotiate could accelerate his departure.
For Glasner, replacing his captain mid-season would be a major setback — but the financial reality may force the club’s hand. Guehi, meanwhile, will look to maintain form ahead of Euro 2026, where he remains a strong candidate for Gareth Southgate’s starting XI.

Guehi going to Bayern makes a lot of sense, not only does Kane play there but his friend Olise as well.
