Manchester United will again be without Bruno Fernandes when they host Wolves on Tuesday night, with Ruben Amorim ruling the club captain out despite his eagerness to return to training early.
The Manchester United head into the Premier League clash at Old Trafford fresh from a 1-0 win over Newcastle United, but injuries and absences continue to shape selection ahead of the visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Fernandes ruled out despite push to return
Fernandes remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and will miss a second straight match, even after requesting to resume training just a week after picking up the issue.
“Bruno was already saying that he needs to train, but we don't know,” said Ruben Amorim.
“No chance he is going to play against Wolves, no chance.”
The United boss also delivered a blunt update on several other key players.
“Kobbie Mainoo is going to start on the training pitch also, so we will see. Matthijs [de Ligt] is struggling a little bit. Harry [Maguire] the same thing.”
Injury list unchanged for Wolves visit
The same quartet who missed the Boxing Day win look set to remain unavailable. Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire are all still struggling for fitness, while Fernandes has been definitively ruled out.
Amorim added further clarity: “I think Kobbie Mainoo is not going to be ready. Bruno is not going to be ready. I think Matt is not going to be ready. Harry is not going to be ready. So, I think we are not going to have more players.”
There is also a question mark over Mason Mount, who complained of tightness during the Newcastle match.
AFCON absences add to problems
United’s options are further reduced by Africa Cup of Nations commitments. Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo are all unavailable.
That has forced Amorim into creative solutions. Lisandro Martínez filled in midfield last week and could again be used there, while Leny Yoro is expected to start in a back five.

What’s at stake?
United’s upcoming run offers a chance to build momentum, but Amorim’s margin for error remains slim with such a depleted squad. Whether this makeshift XI can deliver control and creativity without Fernandes will be central to the outcome.
Can Manchester United cope without Bruno Fernandes once again, or will Wolves exploit the gaps?
