Manchester United Liam Delap transfer 2025 rumours are gathering serious pace. According to multiple sources, including Sky Sports and TEAMtalk, United are now in advanced negotiations to sign the 22-year-old Ipswich Town striker for £30 million — a fee that matches his reported release clause.
Delap, a former Manchester City academy graduate, has impressed in the Championship and is viewed as the ideal long-term solution for United's attacking woes. Despite reaching the Europa League final, United’s inconsistent goal output has made a new striker a top priority.
Sky Sports and TEAMtalk Confirm Advanced Talks
Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol broke the news Tuesday, stating:
“Manchester United are in pole position to sign him. One source tells us the deal is very close and the player would be happy to move. Despite United’s struggles, he still sees them as a big, big club.”

TEAMtalk’s Fraser Fletcher had earlier confirmed Delap tops United’s shortlist of striker targets, with Chelsea now shifting focus to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Club Legends Split Over Delap Deal
Ryan Giggs and Gary Pallister have shared opposing views on Liam Delap’s potential move to Manchester United.
Ryan Giggs is in favour of the transfer, stating:
“It would be an improvement, most definitely. Players like Delap bring energy — and lifting the dressing room with fresh talent is key.”
Gary Pallister, on the other hand, urged caution:
“Delap is a threat, but United have already gone young with Højlund. Amorim needs a 20-goal striker with top-level experience.”
Why Delap Appeals to Amorim
Delap’s playing style — aggressive, high work rate, and Premier League-ready in physicality — aligns with Ruben Amorim’s system. United see him as a player who can grow into the role while pushing Rasmus Højlund, not just back him up.
- Manchester United are close to signing Liam Delap from Ipswich for £30m.
- Sky Sports and TEAMtalk confirm talks are advanced, and the player is open to the move.
- Chelsea have pulled out, focusing instead on Benjamin Sesko.
- Delap is seen as a long-term project, but opinions vary on whether he is the right choice for immediate impact.
- Champions League qualification could impact the timing and outcome of the deal.
What’s Next?
Manchester United’s Europa League final against Tottenham could shape the summer window. If Amorim lifts the trophy and qualifies for the Champions League, Delap’s arrival could be the first of many — and signal a major investment window under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Would Liam Delap be a smart move for Manchester United?
Or do they need a proven elite striker instead?

we missed out on him! I would have loved to have Delap at Chelsea and sell Jackson, because he's a Jackson type of player the way he presses, but much better first touch and finish!
