Manchester United join Arsenal in race for Wolves star Matheus Cunha

According to talkSPORT, Manchester United have joined the growing list of Premier League clubs eyeing a summer move for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.

The Brazilian attacker has a £62.5 million release clause that becomes active at the end of the season, and his performances at Molineux have not gone unnoticed. Cunha is currently Wolves’ top scorer with 15 goals in all competitions, despite missing the last four matches due to suspension.

Arsenal have also been monitoring the 25-year-old, although reports suggest the Gunners are currently prioritizing other targets like Viktor Gyokeres and Nico Williams to fill roles at striker and left wing. Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, remain keen on Cunha but are believed to be behind in the race due to the player’s desire to join a traditional ‘big six’ club—even if Forest qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Manchester United are said to be particularly interested in Cunha as a creative option to play in the number 10 role under incoming manager Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.

TalkSPORT reports that Cunha’s agent is expected to travel to England in the coming weeks for direct talks with interested clubs and has already opened initial dialogue with United.

Cunha, who joined Wolves permanently from Atlético Madrid in 2023 after a loan spell, signed a new four-year deal in February, tying him to the club until 2029. However, that contract may not deter suitors, especially with a clear release clause in place.

He will be eligible to return to the Wolves lineup for their upcoming clash against Tottenham, after serving a four-match suspension stemming from a red card incident during the FA Cup tie against Bournemouth.

Wolves have managed to maintain an unbeaten run in his absence, winning three of their last four fixtures under Vitor Pereira. That run has helped the Midlands club climb 12 points clear of the relegation zone with seven games left.

As Manchester United ramp up their squad rebuild, Amorim is eager to bolster his attacking line, with current forwards Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee contributing just 14 goals between them so far this campaign.

Cunha’s versatility, work rate, and ability to play across the front line make him an appealing target—and the transfer battle for his signature could heat up quickly once the summer window opens.
