Manchester United have concrete interest in Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys as Michael Carrick searches for a new left-back, but the Belgian club are determined to keep the 21-year-old.

Lewis Hall remains United's main target for the position, but Newcastle United have yet to be convinced to sell him.

That has forced the Red Devils to explore alternatives, with Seys now firmly on their radar.

No formal offer has been submitted yet, but convincing Club Brugge to sell could require a huge proposal.

Manchester United keen on Seys

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, United are showing “concrete interest” in the Belgium international.

Club Brugge's current position is that Seys will not be sold this summer, even if an offer worth more than €40m arrives.

Whether that stance holds if United put significantly more money on the table remains to be seen.

Brugge already sold Christos Tzolis to Arsenal for a Belgian league-record €40m this summer and are reluctant to lose another important player.

Manager Ivan Leko, however, has admitted every club can face a difficult decision if an enormous offer arrives.

“If there’s a lot of money on the table, it’s obviously not easy to say no,” Leko said.

That could offer United some encouragement if they decide to turn their interest into a serious bid.

Seys leaves door open to future move

Seys himself has also refused to completely close the door on a transfer.

After starting Club Brugge's 3-0 victory over OH Leuven, the defender insisted he remains happy at his current club but will continue assessing opportunities.

“I feel good here, I am happy here. It is mutual trust,” Seys said.

“We will see what happens this winter or next year. Every year I listen, look at the options, and then I decide.”

The academy graduate signed a contract until 2029 last September, leaving Club Brugge in a strong negotiating position.

Seys has already made 98 first-team appearances, including 37 at right-back, demonstrating the versatility which could also appeal to Carrick.

Key Points

  • Manchester United have concrete interest in Joaquin Seys.
  • United are searching for a left-back, with Lewis Hall their primary target.
  • No formal offer for Seys has been submitted yet.
  • Club Brugge currently insist they would reject even an offer above €40m.
  • Ivan Leko admits a sufficiently large proposal can be difficult to reject.
  • Seys says he is happy at Brugge but will consider future opportunities.
  • The 21-year-old is contracted until 2029.
  • He can operate on both sides of the defence.

What's Next?

United must first decide whether to intensify their pursuit of Seys or continue focusing on Hall.

Club Brugge have made their resistance clear, meaning a deal this summer would likely require well over €40m to seriously test their position.

Seys is not pushing to leave, but neither the player nor Leko has completely ruled out a transfer if the right opportunity and financial package arrives.
