Manchester United’s long summer of change under Ruben Amorim has hit a major snag — and it starts with Jadon Sancho.
The winger’s return from Chelsea has triggered a fresh wave of transfer stress at Old Trafford, adding to a pile-up that already includes Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho. Sancho’s return is unwanted. Rashford’s wages are unmovable. Antony's fee is unrecoverable. Garnacho's future is unstable.
And with a U.S. tour kicking off on July 22 in Chicago, the club’s decision-makers face a race against time.
Sancho’s Return Blindsides United
United thought they were free of Sancho. Chelsea had finished high enough to activate a mandatory purchase clause. But the London club pulled out, paying a £5m break clause to renege on the £25m agreement.
Sancho, earning over £300k a week, has no intention of playing for United again. Neither Dortmund nor Chelsea could match his wage demands. West Ham have shown interest — but the numbers don’t add up.

Rashford's £50m Contract Blocks Exit
Marcus Rashford still has three years left on a £350k/week deal — worth over £50m in total. AC Milan and Aston Villa have both baulked. Barcelona is his preferred destination, but even they are walking a financial tightrope.
United may have to fund part of his wage again, just like they did when sending him to Villa last season.
Antony & Garnacho Also Facing Exits
Antony impressed on loan at Real Betis, but no club is willing to match the £86m United spent on him in 2022. Another loan looks more likely than a sale.
Garnacho is younger, cheaper, and more attractive to suitors like Napoli and Chelsea. But clubs know Amorim wants him gone, and that drives down United’s leverage.
What United Must Do Before U.S. Tour
Time is running out. Ruben Amorim does not want any of the four players in his preseason squad. But if no deals are done, United face two poor choices:
- Take them on tour and risk locker room tension
- Leave them at Carrington, lose face, and kill bargaining power

Stats: The Wage Dilemma
Player | Weekly Wage | Contract Ends |
---|---|---|
Jadon Sancho | £300,000+ | 2026 |
Marcus Rashford | £350,000 | 2028 |
Antony | £200,000+ | 2027 |
Alejandro Garnacho | £80,000 | 2028 |
What’s Next?
United hope to finalise deals for Bryan Mbeumo and a new centre-back. But offloading Sancho, Rashford, Antony and Garnacho remains priority No. 1 before July 22. If not, Amorim’s new era risks starting with old problems.
Which one of these four should United keep, if any? Who do you think will actually leave? Drop your takes in the comments — and share this with fellow Reds!

Expect for Garnacho they earn a sH*t load of money, they won't leave. We've seen that with Sancho, at the end they're all about the money. Even when they still earn a lot they still want more...
