Manchester City kept the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League with a dramatic late win at Anfield, but Pep Guardiola is still managing a stretched squad as injuries continue to disrupt his plans.

City edged out Liverpool 2-1 on Sunday thanks to a stoppage-time winner, cutting Arsenal’s lead to six points. Bernardo Silva marked his return from injury with a crucial goal, while Ruben Dias also made his comeback after a hamstring issue.

However, another defender was forced off during the win, adding to an already lengthy injury list ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Fulham at the Etihad Stadium.

Here is the latest Manchester City injury update, including news on Jeremy Doku, Abdukodir Khusanov and Savinho.

Jeremy Doku

Jeremy Doku remains sidelined after picking up a calf injury during City’s Champions League win over Galatasaray.

The Belgian has now missed the last three matches and Guardiola confirmed prior to the Liverpool game that Doku has yet to return to full training. His absence has limited City’s wide attacking options, particularly during congested fixtures.

Potential return date: February 21 vs Newcastle (H)

Abdukodir Khusanov

Abdukodir Khusanov was handed another high-profile start at Anfield ahead of the returning Ruben Dias and delivered an impressive performance under intense pressure.

However, the Uzbek defender was forced off just after the hour mark following a heavy collision with his own goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who kneed him in the head while attempting to clear the ball.

Guardiola did not provide a medical update post-match but was full of praise for Khusanov’s display.

“Khusanov’s first time at Anfield,” Guardiola said. “Coming from Uzbekistan, six months in France, coming here, first time here, against Salah… what a game he played.”

Provided there are no concussion concerns, he could be available again quickly.

Potential return date: February 11 vs Fulham (H)

Josko Gvardiol

Josko Gvardiol remains a long-term absentee after breaking his leg against Chelsea on New Year’s Day.

City have not issued a fresh update on the Croatian centre-back, whose absence has been felt despite Dias’ recent return.

Potential return date: Unknown

John Stones

John Stones has not featured since December’s dramatic 5-4 win away at Fulham, where he sustained a thigh injury.

Guardiola confirmed last week that Stones had returned to training ahead of the Liverpool game, though he was not included in the matchday squad at Anfield. A return now appears imminent.

Potential return date: February 14 vs Salford (H)

Savinho

Savinho is edging closer to a comeback after suffering a quad injury against Sunderland in early January.

His absence forced City into the January market, where they completed the signing of Antoine Semenyo. Guardiola admitted late last month that Savinho was still behind schedule but had resumed running on the pitch.

“He’s still stuck,” Guardiola said, “but he’s running now.”

The City boss suggested a return window of two to three weeks.

Potential return date: February 14 vs Salford (H)

Mateo Kovacic

Mateo Kovacic is City’s longest-serving absentee after undergoing ankle surgery in November.

The Croatian midfielder is progressing well in his rehabilitation and could return during March as City approach the business end of the season.

Potential return date: March 14 vs West Ham (A)

What this means for Guardiola

  • City may welcome back Khusanov and Stones imminently
  • Doku and Savinho remain short-term absentees
  • Defensive depth is improving, but still fragile
  • Fulham clash could see further rotation

With Arsenal still in sight and fixtures coming thick and fast, Guardiola will be hoping his squad begins to stabilise sooner rather than later.
