Luis Díaz has described Bayern Munich as a “special” club but insists his work in Germany remains unfinished despite an outstanding first season under Vincent Kompany.
The former Liverpool winger joined Bayern for €75million in the summer of 2025 and has since produced 26 goals and 23 assists. His debut campaign delivered all three German domestic trophies, but Champions League success remains missing.
After Bayern's painful semi-final elimination against Paris Saint-Germain last season, Díaz has made winning Europe's biggest club competition his next major target.
Díaz refuses to settle after Bayern domestic treble
Speaking to ESPN, the Colombian explained how quickly he felt comfortable following his move from Liverpool.
“For me, Bayern is special,” Díaz said. “It was something that came along and made me extremely happy at the time, and it continues to make me very happy.”
The atmosphere inside the dressing room was particularly important to his adaptation.
“When you arrive and they make you feel as if you've been a part of the group for a very long time, making you feel like family, I think it makes it quite a bit easier to adapt.”
That transition was reflected in his performances, but Díaz believes last season's success will mean little unless Bayern continue competing for major trophies.
“The past is in the past,” he said. “We had a great season, but if you don't back that up this year with the same or even better, I think it will be forgotten.”
Kompany gives Bayern attackers freedom with responsibility
Díaz also offered an insight into why he has thrived under Kompany.
The Bayern manager gives his attacking players freedom to express themselves while demanding they fulfil their responsibilities without the ball.
“He gives you the freedom to play, obviously while respecting your specific duties on the pitch,” Díaz explained.
Kompany also expects the entire team to defend collectively and maintain the correct positioning when Bayern lose possession.
For Díaz, that balance has been crucial. Bayern have already opened their latest Champions League campaign with a 5-0 victory over Bodø/Glimt, and the Colombian's target could hardly be clearer.
“We have to go for everything — every single competition we are in, and push for the lot.”
