Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri praised his side’s collective defensive effort after securing a valuable 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Anfield, a result that extended the Whites’ unbeaten Premier League run to six matches.

Facing the reigning champions on New Year’s Day, Leeds produced a disciplined and resilient display to frustrate Arne Slot’s side and begin 2026 with another positive result on the road.

Perri highlights collective defensive effort

Perri was quick to credit the work done in front of him, stressing that the clean sheet was the product of a full-team commitment rather than individual brilliance.

“It was a very important result for us,” the Brazilian said after the match. “It is very important to start the year with a point.

“Our team worked very well defensively. Our midfielders have a lot of merit in all the defensive work we have done, a lot of merit in the clean sheet we have achieved today.”

Liverpool dominated possession for long spells, but Leeds limited clear-cut chances and forced the hosts into speculative efforts, allowing Perri to record another shut-out in a demanding environment.

Resilience driving Leeds momentum

The Leeds goalkeeper believes the current run of form is a reflection of growing belief and togetherness within the squad, particularly during a congested and physically demanding period of the season.

“It is an important thing for us as a team and I am very happy with the performance we had today,” Perri said. “I believe that the main factor is the resilience that we showed.”

Leeds have now taken points from some of the league’s strongest sides, reinforcing their progress after returning to the top flight.

Focus remains on long-term goals

Despite the encouraging momentum, Perri was keen to emphasise the need for consistency and focus as the season progresses.

“Of course, during a very long season, we will have difficult and good moments,” he added. “We are living in a very good moment.

“Now we have to keep focused, keep working hard, looking for good results and achieving our goals at the end of the season.”
