Liverpool’s injury situation remains a decisive subplot ahead of back-to-back trips to Wolverhampton Wanderers this week, with Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz both facing uncertain return timelines.

Arne Slot’s side travel to Molineux in the Premier League on Tuesday, 4 March 2026, before returning three days later for an FA Cup fifth-round tie. With the race for Champions League qualification tightening, availability could prove pivotal.

Liverpool injury update ahead of Wolves fixtures

Following the 5-2 win over West Ham on 23 February 2026, Slot confirmed Wirtz is unlikely to feature in the first of the two Wolves meetings.

The German withdrew from the starting XI against Nottingham Forest on 22 February after reporting discomfort during the warm-up. He has since missed consecutive matches with what has been described as a minor back issue.

“I think Tuesday will be too early. We’re hopeful it won’t be too long, but that one will probably come too soon.” — Arne Slot

The second Wolves encounter on Friday, 6 March remains a possibility, though the situation is being monitored daily.

Alexander Isak – recovery entering final phase

Isak’s absence has been longer-term. The Sweden international suffered an ankle injury including a fibula fracture during the 2-1 win over Tottenham on 20 December 2025.

Surgery followed two days later and he has been in rehabilitation since.

Slot recently suggested the end of March or early April is the realistic timeframe for his reintegration into full training.

“It will be around that period — end of March, start of April when he’s hopefully back with the group. But being back with the group doesn’t mean you start immediately.” — Arne Slot

Having followed Liverpool’s attacking structure in recent weeks, Isak’s return would restore vertical threat and box presence that has occasionally been lacking during tight matches. However, it remains too early to predict how quickly he will regain peak sharpness.

Wataru Endo – long-term absence confirmed

Wataru Endo’s situation is more definitive. The midfielder suffered a serious foot injury against Sunderland on 11 February 2026 and has since undergone surgery.

Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu has indicated the plan is for Endo to recover in time for the summer World Cup, suggesting a June target.

That timeline rules him out for the remainder of Liverpool’s domestic campaign.

Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni

Conor Bradley continues rehabilitation after knee ligament surgery in January. No formal return date has been set, though summer 2026 is the earliest expectation.

Giovanni Leoni remains sidelined with a long-term ACL injury sustained in September. Slot has confirmed the defender is targeting a September 2026 comeback.

What this means for Liverpool’s run-in

With Aston Villa three points ahead and Wolves directly affecting the race, squad rotation becomes critical.

Wirtz’s absence reduces creative fluidity between the lines, while Isak’s continued recovery limits Slot’s attacking variation. Much will depend on how effectively Liverpool manage the next two fixtures without those key options.

However, if Isak returns at the start of April as planned, Liverpool could regain a major attacking asset during the decisive final stretch.
