Leicester City are reportedly considering a managerial change should they be relegated, with Danny Rohl emerging as a potential replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy. The Foxes are currently 12 points away from safety, with only eight games remaining, making an immediate return to the Championship highly likely.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took over from Steve Cooper last autumn, signed a contract through June 2027. However, under his leadership, Leicester has struggled significantly, with the team losing 14 of their last 15 league matches. Despite the poor form, Van Nistelrooy, when asked about his future last month, said: “I signed a contract for two more years after this one. I was aware when I arrived what the challenge was and how difficult it could be. I was aware of that and committed to that future.”

Should Leicester part ways with the Dutchman after the season, sources indicate that Danny Rohl could be a leading candidate for the job. Rohl, who is currently managing Sheffield Wednesday, has earned praise for his work in keeping the team safe from relegation in his first senior managerial role. After taking over a team that seemed destined for League One last year, Rohl helped steer the club to safety. This season, despite being a newly promoted team, Rohl has kept the Owls clear of the relegation zone, and they still have an outside chance of reaching the play-offs with seven games remaining.

Rohl’s connection with Leicester’s recruitment chief Martyn Glover, developed during their time together at Southampton, strengthens his candidacy. Rohl’s reputation is bolstered further by his time working under Ralph Hasenhuttl at Saints in 2018-19, which may also make him a contender for roles at other clubs, including if Ivan Juric leaves his position.

Ruud van Nistelrooy's Leicester Stats:

  • Goals scored in the league: 35
  • Goals conceded: 52
  • Games won: 6
  • Games lost: 14

As Leicester faces a difficult end to the season, the club will need to make crucial decisions about their future, with Rohl possibly stepping in should the Dutch manager depart.

Why would you consider a chance? It was bad under Cooper, it's not good under van Nistelrooy, but at least he has done some great job with a few games at United and PSV. Give this guy the time from the beginnen of a season instead of going to a new manger. Nothing is gonna chance the fact that this team is poor.
