Leeds United are on the verge of signing Hoffenheim’s Anton Stach in a deal worth up to €20 million including add-ons, as Daniel Farke continues reshaping his squad ahead of the Premier League season.
The towering 6ft 4in midfielder is currently undergoing a medical, with sources confirming the transfer is in its final stages. The Yorkshire Evening Post first reported that the deal is nearing completion as Leeds look to strengthen their midfield options during their pre-season tour of Germany.
Who Is Anton Stach – And Why Do Leeds Want Him?
Stach, 26, has developed a reputation in the Bundesliga as a defensive powerhouse — strong in duels, aerially dominant, and tactically disciplined. He made 28 league appearances for Hoffenheim last season and was previously capped by Germany under Hansi Flick.
Daniel Farke views Stach as a physical and tactical complement to new signing Sean Longstaff, adding steel and experience to a midfield previously lacking presence.
“Stach gives us size, structure and calm — he’s a player who lets others breathe,” said a recruitment source at Leeds. — YEP
Midfield Depth: How Leeds Are Shaping Up
Stach’s arrival would complete a central trio including Longstaff and holdover Archie Gray, giving Farke options across deeper and box-to-box roles. The Whites are also keeping tabs on a possible attacking midfield addition before the window closes.
Anton Stach vs Sean Longstaff (2024/25)
Stat (2024/25) | Anton Stach | Sean Longstaff |
---|---|---|
Appearances | 28 | 31 |
Tackles Won | 52 | 47 |
Pass Accuracy | 86.1% | 83.4% |
Aerial Duels Won | 81 | 33 |
Analyst Verdict: Smart Signing or Bundesliga Gamble?
At €20m, Leeds are banking on a player who brings immediate physicality and Bundesliga-level pedigree. While Stach isn't a creator, his reliability off the ball and presence in transitions could prove key to Premier League survival and balance.
With Farke familiar with the German league, this could be one of the smarter under-the-radar signings this summer.

You still need a GK mate! Why did you even buy Longstaff... I mean that Bulgarian guy had a good game, this was actually unnecessary - but Stach seems the be a good fit!
