Leeds United have rejected a fresh approach from Real Betis for young striker Mateo Joseph, just 24 hours after renewed interest from the La Liga club was reported.

The Spanish side, managed by Manuel Pellegrini, had already failed with a £10m bid back in January. Now they’ve returned with a loan-to-buy offer — but Leeds have made it clear that Joseph is not for sale.

Betis Still Pushing Despite Leeds’ Stance

Joseph is reportedly a key target for Betis, who have already signed former Leeds man Junior Firpo this summer. Their second attempt involved a season-long loan with a buy option — but sources say Leeds “wasted no time” in turning it down.

“Leeds have told Betis that Joseph is not for sale,” reported The Athletic, confirming the Whites’ firm stance on the striker’s future.

Why Real Betis Want Mateo Joseph

A move to La Liga could boost Joseph’s chances of a senior Spain call-up, with Betis offering European football in the Europa League next season.

Pellegrini’s side also reached the Conference League final last term, making them a major step up in visibility for a player looking to break out.

Could Leeds Reconsider Later in the Window?

Sources close to the club suggest Joseph’s future could still depend on incomings. Leeds have already signed Lukas Nmecha from Wolfsburg and remain in contact with Getafe over Christantus Uche — although no bid has yet been made.

Both Aston Villa and Newcastle United are also tracking Uche.

If another striker joins, Joseph could drop to third choice under Daniel Farke — after already losing his starting place to Joel Piroe midway through last season.

Analyst Verdict: Smart Stand or Missed Opportunity?

Leeds’ decision to hold firm on Joseph may frustrate Betis, but the 21-year-old remains one of the club’s most promising academy products. With Piroe potentially unproven at Premier League level, keeping depth up front could prove wise.

However, if he’s not getting regular minutes, Joseph’s development — and resale value — could stall.

Key Insights

What’s Next for Joseph and Leeds?

For now, Leeds are standing firm — but this story is unlikely to end here. Betis remain keen, and the arrival of one more striker could reopen the door.

Expect more twists before deadline day.

Should Leeds cash in on Mateo Joseph — or give him another season to prove himself?

10 is low considering the market actually. 20 should be fine, but Leeds have no depth - unless they get Wilson or something..
