Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has described his start to life at Everton as something he has “loved”, while also outlining his ambition to push into England contention ahead of the World Cup this summer.
The midfielder was central to Everton’s comeback win over Fulham on Saturday, scoring the equaliser in a 2-1 victory at Craven Cottage before Bernd Leno’s own goal completed the turnaround. The result extended Everton’s impressive away run, with David Moyes’ side now unbeaten in their last five league matches on the road.
Speaking to evertontv, Dewsbury-Hall highlighted the confidence Everton are carrying into away fixtures.
“Our away form this year has been second to none,” he said. “So we're actually really confident going to most places.
“After the first-half performance, which wasn't probably at our level, the second half again was just so much better. We put them on the back foot from minute one.”
Dewsbury-Hall loving Everton life after strong start
The summer signing admitted his move to Merseyside has exceeded expectations, pointing to the role Everton supporters have played in lifting performances, particularly away from home.
“I love it. It's probably exceeded my expectations, to be honest,” Dewsbury-Hall said. “The fans have been unreal since the day I got here and it's just nice when you can repay them with that.
“To be an Everton fan and to go away this year must be exciting because you know it's going to be a game where we've got a good chance of winning.”
Everton’s resilience was again evident at Fulham, with Dewsbury-Hall acknowledging that a frank half-time discussion helped spark the second-half response.
“It shows a lot of character. Obviously, we had words at half-time, so it needed to be better. It was better – a lot better in the second half.”
England ambitions boosted by Tuchel presence
England head coach Thomas Tuchel was in attendance at Craven Cottage, watching Dewsbury-Hall deliver a Player of the Match performance. Although uncapped at senior level, the midfielder believes consistent club form is the only pathway into international consideration.
“If I keep scoring and helping the team, then that's all I can do,” he said. “Hopefully, then people in that position can take a look and think maybe there's a space.
“I know what I can offer. The better I do for my club, it gives me a better chance of playing internationally.”
Dewsbury-Hall also joked about Tuchel’s recent run of watching him score.
“He came to Old Trafford as well and I scored, so maybe he should come to all of them.”
Everton aim to build momentum quickly
Everton face a quick turnaround with Bournemouth visiting Goodison Park on Tuesday night. While home form has been less consistent, Dewsbury-Hall believes Saturday’s result offers a platform to push on.
“We spoke about it all week about how this could be a very important week for us,” he said. “Two games in quick succession, and we could be looking in a good position if we get positive results.
“We want to show the teams around us in the table that we're serious about what we're going to do this year.”
