Juventus are reportedly preparing a summer approach for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with the Italian international emerging as their top target to lead a midfield rebuild. According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, the Serie A giants see Tonali as a long-term solution in the center of the pitch, but negotiations with Newcastle could prove challenging.
Juventus see Tonali as a key figure for their midfield future
Having already begun discussions with Manchester United over striker Rasmus Højlund, Juventus are also focusing on strengthening their midfield. Tonali, who joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023, is seen as a high-profile addition capable of commanding the tempo and bringing leadership to the squad.
"Juventus have identified Tonali as a player who possesses the personality, the leadership, and the technical skills to take control of their midfield in the future," said Moretto.
However, Juventus may face a difficult road ahead, with Tonali under contract at Newcastle and showing strong form in the Premier League.
Newcastle remain uncommitted on Tonali's future
Despite Juventus' interest, Newcastle have not yet made a final decision on Tonali’s availability. The Magpies remain focused on their pursuit of Champions League qualification, and Tonali has been a key player throughout the season.
Reports suggest that Newcastle would expect a transfer fee in the range of €70–80 million to consider a sale. However, Moretto emphasized that no formal stance has been taken by the Premier League club.
"It won’t be easy because negotiating with Newcastle is difficult. At the same time, Tonali is a top target for Juventus, but they have a long way to go," he added.
Tonali’s Premier League and International impact
Tonali has quickly adapted to life in England. Since his arrival, he has played 37 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing two assists. His performances have been praised for both consistency and creativity.
Following his return from a betting suspension, Tonali has also reestablished himself as a starter for the Italy national team. He has now earned 23 caps, scoring two goals and assisting four more for the Azzurri.
A Milan title winner making his mark at Newcastle
Before his move to the Premier League, Tonali was instrumental in AC Milan’s 2021–22 Serie A title win. His combination of work rate, vision, and tactical awareness made him a fan favorite at the San Siro. Since joining Newcastle, he has demonstrated the same qualities and continues to be a major influence in midfield under manager Eddie Howe.
As Juventus continue to monitor the situation closely, all eyes will be on Newcastle’s decision this summer. Tonali's future is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing storylines of the transfer window.
