Newcastle United have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of Lille striker Jonathan David. With the Canadian international’s contract set to expire at the end of this season, David is increasingly being linked with a move to the Premier League. Newcastle are reportedly in the running to sign the talented forward, and the latest transfer update indicates that the striker has already made an important decision regarding his future. With his contract up for renewal, David has decided he won’t be staying in France, which opens the door for clubs like Newcastle to make their move this summer.
Jonathan David’s Next Move: What We Know So Far
Jonathan David’s future has been a topic of speculation for months, with many European clubs eyeing the 23-year-old striker as a potential summer signing. His performances for Lille have caught the attention of several top clubs, with Newcastle United joining the race to sign him.
As his contract nears its expiration, David is increasingly likely to leave the French club for free, and with the interest from Premier League clubs, the situation has become even more intriguing. The latest report from French outlet Le10Sport confirms that David has already made a decision about his next move: he will not sign for another club in France and is open to offers from other European leagues.
David previously spoke about the possibility of moving to the Premier League, describing it as a “very nice atmosphere.” His comments further fuel speculation that he could be making a move to England this summer.
“I don’t know, I think it’s possible, very possible. I don’t know if I can find myself anywhere other than the Premier League. It could well be the Premier League. It’s a very nice atmosphere.” — Jonathan David
Premier League Interest: Newcastle United in the Lead?
Newcastle United's reported interest in Jonathan David has been well documented. The club has sent scouts to watch the Lille striker multiple times this season, and with the Magpies pushing for Champions League qualification, their summer transfer plans could be influenced by their final league standing. David’s potential move to St. James' Park makes sense, given Newcastle’s attacking needs and the fact that David will be available on a free transfer.
However, it’s not just Newcastle who are interested. Serie A giants Napoli are also reportedly in the mix for David’s signature. While the Premier League seems to be the player’s preferred destination, Napoli’s interest could add an extra layer of competition to the race.

i don't think for a second that he's willing to sit on the bench. So don't see Newcastle as an option.
