Newcastle United have reignited their pursuit of Brighton’s Joao Pedro, with Sky Sports reporting the Brazilian striker is once again a target for Eddie Howe’s side this summer.

The Magpies first chased Pedro back in 2022, when a deal with Watford nearly materialised. Three years on, the 23-year-old has established himself at Brighton and scored 30 goals in all competitions since joining the Seagulls.

Joao Pedro Transfer: What’s the Story So Far?

Pedro’s name was on Newcastle’s list in 2022, and Fabrizio Romano even issued a “here we go” before the move collapsed. Pedro stayed at Watford for another year before joining Brighton for around £30 million in 2023.

Fast forward to 2025, and Newcastle are again on the hunt for a dynamic forward—especially with Callum Wilson set to leave and Alexander Isak expected to stay.

“Joao Pedro’s versatility means he could play alongside Isak, not just as a backup,” reports Sky Sports.

Joao Pedro’s Brighton Stats So Far

Season Games Goals
2023–24 41 13
2024–25 39 17
Total (All Comps) 80 30

Why Joao Pedro Fits Newcastle United’s Plans

  • Versatile forward: Can play as striker, second striker, or winger
  • Potential to start alongside Isak, not just act as backup
  • Adds Brazilian flair to a squad already featuring Guimaraes and Joelinton
  • Proven Premier League and cup performer

But Brighton will be tough negotiators—reports suggest it could take £60 million to even begin discussions.

What’s Next for Newcastle and Joao Pedro?

Pedro is one of several options Newcastle are exploring after missing out on Liam Delap and Bryan Mbeumo. Convincing him to move may hinge on Howe’s ability to offer a clear pathway to regular first-team football—not just a backup role.

Should Newcastle splash £60m to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton? Is he the right fit next to Isak—or should Howe look elsewhere? Drop your verdict in the comments and tag a fellow fan to join the debate!
