Joao Pedro’s Premier League future is coming into sharp focus as both Chelsea and Newcastle United intensify efforts to sign Brighton’s £50m-rated striker this summer.
The Brazilian has emerged as one of the most sought-after forwards in the 2025 transfer window, with Newcastle making him a top target to reinforce Eddie Howe’s faltering front line. But despite Tyneside interest, Pedro’s heart may be set on the capital — and a move to Stamford Bridge appears to be gaining serious traction.
Joao Pedro transfer: Brighton striker prioritises Chelsea move
The transfer saga surrounding Joao Pedro is heating up as Premier League clubs battle for his signature — and it seems Chelsea may have a crucial edge. Sources close to the Brighton camp suggest that Pedro has not only made his desire to leave clear but has also outlined a preference for a move to London. That places Chelsea in pole position ahead of Newcastle, despite the Magpies’ strong interest.
Brighton striker Joao Pedro has told teammates he wants to leave — with London his preferred destination, handing Chelsea the advantage over Newcastle.
This stance aligns with what teammate Igor Julio recently revealed during an interview in Brazil, where he confirmed Pedro’s long-standing wish to play in the capital. While Newcastle have the ambition and financial power to complete a deal, Chelsea’s location — and potential project under Maresca — may prove more persuasive.
Why Pedro Is Ready to Leave Brighton
According to teammate Igor Julio, Joao Pedro made it clear to Brighton some time ago that he wished to leave the Amex and take the next step in his career. Julio, speaking to Brazilian outlet Trivela, said the 23-year-old “always wanted to live in London” and believes Pedro is now determined to make that a reality.
“It seems it will be difficult and complicated for him to stay here,” said Igor. “He’s been in England five years and hasn’t played for a big team yet — it’s his moment.” — Igor Julio
Pedro has been Brighton’s standout attacker since arriving from Watford in a £30m deal two years ago, scoring 30 goals and providing a consistent threat across the front line. With three years left on his contract, Brighton are under no pressure to sell — but interest from multiple ‘Big Six’ clubs could force their hand.
Brighton’s Stance Remains Firm
Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler has suggested the club still expects Pedro to stay, praising his potential and projecting growth next season.
“Joao is still a young player… I’m looking forward to seeing him reinvigorated at his highest peak for us next season,” said Hürzeler. — Fabian Hürzeler
But with Pedro now actively exploring options and suitors willing to spend, the Seagulls may not be able to hold onto their star forward much longer.

What’s Next for Joao Pedro?
Expect Chelsea to accelerate talks now that the player’s preference is public. Brighton’s valuation remains the only major hurdle. If Newcastle decide to walk away, Pedro could become the Blues’ first marquee forward signing of the 2025 window.
Should Joao Pedro join Chelsea or give Newcastle’s project a chance?

Good player, but we've been schooled a few times by Brighton they value their players above 60M always. Dont want to do any business with them anymore. Unless, we could swap a player.
