Fulham's 3-2 victory over Liverpool handed the title challengers only their second Premier League defeat of the season—and according to Joachim Andersen, a key stat provided the spark that fired Marco Silva’s side to victory.
Speaking to ViaPlay after the game, Andersen revealed that Fulham had been made aware of Liverpool’s unbeaten away record this season before kick-off, and it added fuel to their performance.
“We were told that they had not lost away from home this season, so that gave us some motivation. However, I expect them to win the league,” the defender said, as relayed by Bold.
Fulham blew Liverpool away in a blistering first half, scoring three goals in just 15 minutes. Although Luis Diaz pulled one back in the second half, the damage had been done.
Andersen praised the team’s effort and quality in the build-up to the goals:
“We know that we can put all teams under pressure. Those were some great goals, and everyone just worked really hard.”
Currently sitting eighth in the Premier League, Fulham are within touching distance of the European spots. Just five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, Andersen is eyeing an ambitious finish.
“It’s clear that it’s close. Now we have seven finals left, and it’s just about giving it the gas. We’re going for a great position, and we’re going for the big thing,” he added.
Fulham face a crucial run of fixtures in the coming weeks, including clashes against Aston Villa, Bournemouth, and Chelsea. A strong run could thrust them into contention for a surprise Champions League push.
