Former Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Jhon Arias has reflected on his brief Premier League spell, describing the club as the one that opened the door to European football for him.

Speaking to Win Sports in an interview, the Colombian international looked back on his time at Wolves and credited the club with helping him reach the European stage during his career.

Although his stay at Molineux lasted only a short period, Arias said the experience played an important role in his development.

Jhon Arias credits Wolves for opening European opportunity

Arias explained that moving to Wolverhampton represented a key milestone when he first pursued his ambition of playing in Europe.

“Wolves is the club that opened the doors for me in Europe. I think all players, when we begin our professional careers, have that ambition and dream of reaching Europe and reaching the elite of football.” — Jhon Arias, Win Sports

The winger also highlighted the challenge of competing in the Premier League, which he described as the most demanding environment in club football.

“I had the opportunity to arrive in the Premier League, which I consider the best league in the world, the most competitive league in the world. Wolverhampton was the place that gave me that opportunity to arrive in Europe.” — Jhon Arias

Premier League experience shaped Arias’ development

Despite his relatively short time in England, Arias said the period helped him grow both professionally and personally.

According to the Colombian international, the Premier League environment forced him to pay closer attention to details that can influence performance at the highest level.

“It was a very important time for learning, for maturing and growing as a person and as a professional. It forces you to focus on small details that sometimes you overlook in daily life.” — Jhon Arias

Having followed Wolves closely during that period, Arias’ stay at Molineux was brief compared to many overseas signings. However, it remains too early to frame the spell solely through appearances or minutes played, as players often experience important developmental steps away from the spotlight.

Palmeiras move signals next stage of career

After leaving Wolves, Arias completed a move to Brazilian side Palmeiras in a deal reportedly worth around £21.5 million (€25m).

The Colombian said the project presented by the Brazilian club convinced him to continue his career in South America.

“I am now at Palmeiras, a giant in South America and a giant in Brazil. It is a club that opened the doors for me, that went to England for me, that made me feel important and valued.”

He also stressed that Palmeiras’ ambition to compete for major honours aligned with his personal goals.
