Jamie Vardy’s future in doubt as Premier League and EFL interest grows

Veteran striker Jamie Vardy could be on the move this summer as Leicester City face a critical decision regarding his future. The 38-year-old's contract at the King Power Stadium is set to expire at the end of the season, and speculation is mounting about whether the club will offer him a new deal.

Despite Leicester’s struggles this season—sitting well adrift of safety following a tough run of results—Vardy’s personal stats remain impressive. He has been directly involved in 10 of Leicester’s goals this campaign, proving he still has plenty to offer, even as he approaches his 40s.

Vardy, who has spent over a decade with Leicester since arriving from Fleetwood Town for just £1 million in 2012, has no plans to retire this summer. The former England international is reportedly keen to continue competing at the highest possible level, whether that’s with Leicester or elsewhere.

Could a Move Be on the Cards?

If Leicester decide against offering a contract extension, Vardy could have several suitors. Wrexham, the ambitious Welsh club owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have previously been linked with a move. While club executive Humphrey Ker played down rumours last year, he also didn’t rule out the possibility, stating that Vardy’s age and profile wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for the club.
Meanwhile, pundits believe that Vardy could still contribute in the Premier League. Former Watford striker

Troy Deeney recently told talkSPORT that clubs like West Ham United and Everton could benefit from Vardy’s experience and goal-scoring instinct. “Jamie is in a great position,” said Deeney. “He’s a proven Premier League striker. With so much squad rotation and injuries, he could be an excellent second or third striker for clubs aiming to compete on multiple fronts.”

Deeney added that Vardy’s energy, work rate, and experience—having won the Premier League, represented England, and played in Europe—would make him a valuable addition to any squad.

Club Legend Status
Vardy is on the brink of reaching two major milestones at Leicester—two goals away from hitting 200 goals for the club, and just six appearances short of 500. His record stands at 181 goals in 366 league starts, an incredible achievement that has cemented his place in club history.

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy acknowledged Vardy’s impact and professionalism, saying:
“He trains hard, he supports the squad, and he's always leading by example. A player like Jamie deserves a say in what comes next for him. He’s earned that.”

With interest from both the top flight and the ambitious lower leagues, Vardy’s next move could be one of the most talked-about stories of the summer.
