Jamal Musiala explains condition after two Bayern Munich collapses

Jamal Musiala has spoken publicly about his condition after collapsing on the pitch twice in the space of three days while playing for Bayern Munich, reassuring supporters that he is doing well and receiving specialist medical care.

The Germany international revealed that he has been diagnosed with what he described as “brief, temporary episodes of absence” caused by a neurological dysfunction, following concerning incidents against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim.

Musiala was initially forced off during Bayern's friendly against RB Leipzig after appearing to collapse.

Teammate Ismael Saibari prevented him from falling, with Joshua Kimmich quickly coming to his assistance before medical staff attended to the midfielder. Musiala subsequently returned to training.

Another incident then occurred during Bayern's 4-2 victory over Heidenheim on Tuesday. Only minutes after entering the game, Musiala went down on the pitch, with players from both teams gathering around him and forming a shield while he received attention.

Bayern sporting chief Max Eberl said afterwards that the club was aware of Musiala's situation and indicated that the player would address it himself.

Musiala then released a statement explaining his condition.

Writing on Instagram, Musiala began by reassuring supporters that he was doing well and thanking them for their messages.

The attacking midfielder said the episodes were “easily treatable” and explained that they could lead to the type of moments seen against Leipzig and Heidenheim.

Musiala acknowledged that the incidents could look frightening but said he is receiving what he considers the best possible medical care and remains optimistic about his situation.

Crucially, the Bayern player said that, according to the information he has received, there is no additional health risk beyond the diagnosed episodes.

He added that continuing to play football was his personal decision, made following consultation with neurological specialists and with their approval.

Rather than stepping away from his normal routine, Musiala explained that continuing his everyday life and playing football forms part of how he wants to approach the situation.

He stressed that he had taken responsibility for that decision and said Bayern, medical specialists and those closest to him were supporting him.

The 23-year-old also expressed confidence about his progress, saying he has a “very good feeling” and believes he is on the right path.

His statement provides the first detailed explanation from the player himself after two worrying incidents in quick succession. While Musiala has chosen to clarify the nature of his diagnosis publicly, he also asked supporters to respect his privacy from this point onwards.

Musiala intends to continue playing football while remaining in close consultation with his medical specialists and Bayern Munich.

The midfielder has made clear that continuing his normal routine is his preferred approach and says he feels positive about his progress. Bayern are aware of the situation and are supporting him alongside the specialists involved in his care.

Further medical details may remain private after Musiala specifically asked for the matter to stay between himself, his closest confidants, Bayern and the experts treating him.
